Facebook Family

April 26th, 2007 @ 1:35 pm by Mrs. Bluebell

A few weeks ago I found out that Mr. Bluebell’s brother (who’s in high school) has a facebook account. (Not so surprising, eh?) So I figured I should invite him to be my friend the next time I was on facebook, since I am very very rarely on there. I asked him the other day and today I finally got around to checking and he accepted! So that was nice, but not the point of my post. The point is that he also filled out the little “how you know each other” option and he chose “family”!! laughin04

I cannot tell you how much that made my day! I just love thinking how all his friends will be scrolling along and see me and think “who’s that girl?” and then say “oh, she’s in his family!” Haha okay yes, I am a loser, but it just warmed my heart soooo much knowing that this high school kid really considers me a part of his family. High school boys don’t tend to be the mushiest people out there, so it really got me choked up.

Oh man am I going to be a mess when we actually get married if crap like this makes me cry!!

Anyway, is anyone else facebook “family” with any not-yet-in-laws? Did you initiate the “family” calling or did they? Is anyone else I happy-crying mess alllll the time? blush04

I don’t have a facebook. :( But, I did get excited when Mr. Kiwi’s brother called me “family”. And when Mr. Kiwi’s mom said something about Mr. Kiwi’s nephew needing his aunt and uncle around. I’m an AUNT!! Even if they DO call me uncle.

Nothing online like that but I’ve become great friends with FI’s older sister and throughout the years especially the recent past we’ve gotten so close that she is standing up for me as my MOH! In fact she was joking around the other week and she had said she’s been thinking about her speech for our wedding and she said

“Knowing me I’ll probably just cry and say Lyn (her brother, my FI), thanks so much for marrying my sister! Welcome to the family!”

I thought that was really sweet that she was welcoming HIM to the family instead of me LOL! But both of us growing up with just brothers we have that “I always wanted a sister” bond… and I love her to death!

My FSIL and I are friends on MySpace because she doesn’t have a Facebook. But FH and my sister are Facebook friends.

I got hooked on the Six Degrees of Separation group, picking random people in the group and trying to figure out how we were connected. It’s really interesting to see how I’m connected to someone in Canada who only has friends in Canada!

I had a similar great moment, except it was my FI that actually tried to find a way to make my cousin a cousin in law on facebook it was so cute. Then my favorite cousin who is like a brother, my FI listed as family. I thought it was so sweet. I started tearing up. I know the sooner we get to the wedding date, the more of a mess I’m going to be crying all the time about being so happy!!

It was not long after the engagement that the FILs started signing emails as “Mom” and “Dad.” I don’t get all weepy, but I admit it’s cute.

Four of my FI’s cousins are on Facebook (2 college, 2 high school), as is his younger sister (and one of my BMs). All five of them filled out the how we know each other section with the family option. :)

One of my favorite Facebook moments was when we made the relationship status change to “engaged.” FI thought the request it sent him (I initiated the change) was cute and he took a screen shot of it. Yes, we are nerds!

fi’s grandfather passed away a few months ago, and we attended the funeral. the rabbi asked the family to gather, and fmil insisted i go with them as “family.”

i love grandpa, and one of my favorite memories is holding his hand at fbil’s wedding a few years ago.

I am on facebook! ;) I think I tried to “friend” you. I know what you mean. The other day, Fmil said, “Well your wife is ….” That made me all warm and mushy.

Like hm, I was actually in Grandma SP’s obituary last week and that was very touching. (too bad for the circumstances)

Aww, adorable! My future-sister-in-law has started calling me her sister, which is so sweet! Neither of us actually has a sister, and I’m so glad to have that sort of bond with her!!

while the bf’s sister is about 8-9 years younger than i am [and closer to my younger sis's age] i have gotten friendly with his cousin here in cali, who consistently refers to me on her blog and mine as cousin-in-law and asks if we set a date yet. lol

My FI had me listed as “Family” even when we were just engaged :o) I loved that! And like Leslie, I loved it when our status changed! FI made the “engaged” request. I love seeing that! It’s actually how some of my friends who I hadn’t spoken to in a while found out that we were engaged. Whoops ;o)

I should clarify … his pictures of me were in his “Family” album, not that we were dating and listed as family in some weird way ;o)

Hi there Miss Bluebell,
I have the same pleasant experience as you do. My FI’s cousins (a few of them still in high school) listed me as “family” before we even got engaged!! Another cousin even congratulated us on our engagement on facebook before it had actually happened! Talk about them trying to let my FI know to hurry up and get down on one knee :P And when we finally got engaged, it was my FI who listed our relationship as ‘engaged’ for all our contacts on facebook to see :D

I don’t do facebook but about four years ago FI’s family insisted that I get in the family picture at his cousin’s wedding. I bet they’ve been holding their breath until we got married.

Somewhat related, I printed out cards for the bridesmaids with quotes about being a friend or being a sister and asked FI to give me an opinion on the one for his sis (she’s the only girl in the family).

I’d picked a sister quote to which FI said, she doesn’t have a sister. I paused and then told him that he’s a dork. Duh! Now she does.

Haha, this is so funny because this is actually what ‘gave it away’ for me that we were getting engaged. My FI’s little sister got facebook as a freshman in college and she added the ‘in the family’ bit. I just laughed it off but sure enough, not to long after that, I was engaged!!!
