Shoe Stretching Secret

April 26th, 2007 @ 10:32 am by Mrs. Lemon

I’m seeing if Miss Caterpillar’s Shoe Secret really works…

So far, so good! I’m lucky that my shoes are already insanely comfortable and are made of very soft leather, but as a victim of shoe abuse with many strappy-sorority-scars to prove it, one can’t be too cautious! Plus I’m getting too old to wear my “Malibu Couture” knee socks out on the town… so I can frolic indoors like it’s 2004 again!

Great idea!

In the event there are other blister questions raised — I’ve had success with Nu-Skin liquid bandage. It’s like clear nailpolish that you brush on the skin where you are likely to get blisters so you won’t get one. Also works great as an invisible bandage on places where a regular bandaid won’t stick, would get wet/dirty, or looks ugly.

Good to know.

You’re shoes are super pretty. Where did you get them?

I had a figure-skating friend who broke in her new ice skates in a similar way, except that she would firstsoak her socks in warm water and wring them out (so they were just damp). I know it sounds gross but apparently the heat and the moisture loosen the glue and leather more readily than just pressure. This might be a good strategy for particularly tough shoes!

What else works really well is BodyGlide. Not the uh, “personal lubricant,” the stuff for athletes:

http://www.bodyglide.com/

As a runner I use this stuff every day, under my athletic bra and on my “muscular” thighs that rub together. I believe Band-Aid has copied the idea and come out with a smaller tube called “Blister Block” which might be easier to find. BodyGlide is the best stuff: it’s non-staining, not sticky, and lasts a really long time. It’s perfect for those of us with thighs that rub together who want to wear skirts without hose. And it’s great for new shoes! Try it, or the Band-Aid version.

BTW, I love those shoes, Miss Lemon, I was very tempted to get them myself, but went with some very low-heeled shoes with some bling in the end.

Lately Weddingbee seems to be eating some of my posts. I hope I’m not banned! Anyway, I posted saying that you could also try BodyGlide–not the “personal lubricant,” but the stuff for athletes. I use it every day as a runner, it keeps me from getting chafed on my thighs and under my running bra. It’s non-sticky, non-staining, lasts a long time, and it’s actually good for your skin. It’s also great for feet with new shoes, or on very long runs. I believe that Band-Aid has ripped off the idea with something called “Blister Block,” which may be easier to find, I generally have to go to a sporting goods store like EMS to find BodyGlide. It’s also great for those of us with thighs that rub together who want to wear skirts without hose. I’ll have it on during my wedding day.

kekeke I was thinking the same thing about bodyglide. (naughty Miss Snow Pea). I didn’t know they made that. Nu-skin as Iris pointed out is really good! It really works.

Pencils - My post earlier was stuck in queue too. Don’t know why but I am sure as Mrs. Bee explained, it’s not you.

Thanks, Miss Snow Pea, I saw Mrs. Bee’s post. Gotcha. I had forgotten that I had posted the BodyGlide link. BTW, on top of everything else, it’s a great moisturizer. Nearly every runner I know loves the stuff, except the very rare one who somehow avoids chafing. Which can be a serious thing, I’m not a marathoner, but even at my shorter distances I’ve had my running bra chafe me bloody, and BodyGlide prevents it. Apparently it’s a frequent thing for male marathoners to get bloody nipples from chafing–gross, I know, but true. So they use BodyGlide. There’s going to be one of their travel-sized tubes in my wedding day emergency bag! As I’m wearing stockings, not pantyhose, ooh la la! :D

Ah, sorority shoe wounds! What sorority, Lemon? Gawd, I remember the double crossover strap Steve Maddens that everyone had on our campus…the things we’d go through to slug a keg of beer.

Thanks for the great tips guys! I’m such a post-trauma girl… I need to be more preventative!

The shoes are from Shannon Britt… I bought they from her website on sale, but Zappos also carries her bridal lines! They’re gorgeously made!
