We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!

I Can’t DIY!

May 1st, 2007 @ 12:57 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

Last night I realized Mr. Kiwi has PowerPoint on his Mac. This reminded me of all the DIY things that can be done with a Mac. Excited, I scoured the net looking for DIY instructions, and found DIY Bride’s youtube show on creating a monogram in PowerPoint. It was really cool, but I found out I suck. I also found out that I’m slower than a bag of hammers - I couldn’t even find the “text box” she so blurrily (I made that up, I think) illustrated.

I don’t know if her screen was feeling ugly that day, so they decided to give it the ol’ vaseline on the lens treatment, but I couldn’t figure out what she was doing. My monogram ended up looking like something I did with my foot. I’d show you, but apparently it was a little harder than I thought to save it. laughin08

So, all ideas of DIMYselfing have flown out the window. How could I expect to attach a simple leaf/acorn to some wording if I can’t even make two letters overlap? Goodness. I have a lot more respect for you DIYers. It’s HARD!

Anyone know of any EASY DIY projects a bride-to-be can do?

Honestly, I got frustrated at first with the monogram thing but practicing for a little while I can do it!! I’m not as creative as other people but I can copy a monogram that I like…

I just made 116 napkin rings out of cardstock. That there was some easy DIY, and cheaper than upgrading to colored napkins.

the problem is not you. power point not only sucks (especially the mac version), but is also not the application you want to use to create a monogram (I’m a graphic designer). Try in Illustrator, I’m sure you’ll do better!

hmmm… i made a photo collage that included most of our guests. (super easy! :)). just color copied the photos so i didn’t ruin the originals, cut them out and pasted them inside a big frame.

i really didn’t do that many diy projects myself. ;)

I second lonely girl…Illustrator is wayyyyy better than PowerPoint. But if you don’t have illustrator, you could try MS paint. You can download a trial of Illustrator CS2 or CS3 from adobe.com.

Another super easy DIY project for a bride is your wedding programs. You can create these in Microsoft Word and print them on pretty paper or cardstock. Don’t forget to save your document as a PDF though if you are taking it somewhere else to print.

Ooo, yeah, programs are good DIY. Mine weren’t fancy or anything, but I found a format of one I really like (from a wedding that I coordinated) and made my own mock-up in Word.

If you must, though…the easiest way to overlap the letters (perhaps the only way) is to put each of them in a totally separate text box. Then you can drag them just about anywhere. (There will now be a pause while I test this…yes, it’s true.)

My favorite DIY project can be done nightly and it’ll always come out exactly how you want it to! Instructions below:
Open cabinet.
Grab favorite (and preferably largest) drink glass.
Open liquor cabinet, pick favorite combo.
Pour, mix, drink. Repeat.

I’ve found this DIY to be especially gratifying when done immediately after my last DIY fails.
