Nair, Do Well?

May 2nd, 2007 @ 1:15 pm by Mrs. Blueberry

Even though I’ve been shaving my legs since I was a pre-teen, I still haven’t perfected the process. And for someone who enjoys wearing casual skirts as much as I do, it can be quite annoying to discover a massive patch of stubble that my razor somehow missed.

I think, then, that I want to check out the new Nair for sensitive skin. I hear that Nair has come a long way since the 1970’s horror stories I’ve heard, and with this new sensitive formula I think I’d feel fairly confident putting it on my tender gams.

If I do try it, I’ll test it on a small area first to make sure I’m not allergic, but hey–just in case, my wedding dress is long, right? smiley503 hehehe

Have any of you guys tried Nair lately? Would you recommend it?

How do you take care of your legs?

I use Nair’s facial line (for in between my eyebrows — even though it’s nowhere near a unibrow or anything, as well as my upper lip). It works really well, no burning or smell or anything of the sort. I’ve never had a reaction and would recommend it if you’re not one to go for waxing, like myself :)

Miss Blueberry! Miss Blueberry! I do NOT recommend NAIR!!! I tried it about 2yrs ago (i ran out of my regular stuff). It smells horrible and you will smell like a chemical plant for the next 1-2 days! Also I found that it burns your skin easily (and I don’t have sentitive skin). It literally feels like the top layer of your skin is seared off — not very pleasant.

However I highly highly recommend using another hair remover - VEET! :) I was introduced to it by my college roomie (from Spain). I’ve used VEET for the last 3-4yrs and its available at most U.S. retailers now. They used to only be available in Europe. There is a slight smell but it’s nothing compared to the chemically Nair fumes. You still have to be careful to use it according to the instructions (like how long to leave it on). You’ll notice that the hair that grows back is much softer and finer than before. After awhile the hair follicle actually dies and stops growing. (This sounds weird but I no longer have hair on my thighs.)

Just remember to do your hair removal in sections. Don’t slather the remover all over at once - you’ll never be able to remove the foam in time. Also be sure to discard the removed foam in the wastebasket and not to flush it down the drain. It’s not very water soluble and it will clog.

Hope this was helpful :)

i second didi! i LOVE veet, though i use it when i’m going on vacation. any other time i just shave. i just bought a bottle last week and noticed the smell has improved from the earlier cans i bought and is easier on the nose. it does work very well and i am noticing bald patches on my legs and i don’t have to shave as often any more either. i just love that super clean, smooth feeling. if you go with a shave cream like this, i’d use veet over nair. it doesn’t burn but the cream is cold.

Veet trumps Nair, hands down. Both smell a bit odd, but Veet is MUCH better than the Nair, and it has never made me break out. Nair, on the other hand, made me rash like mad. Not cool. But, I think waxing is the best for a vacation where you don’t want to shave for a week. Just IMO!

Has anyone tried NADS? I’ve always wondered about that one…

I am an avit Nair hater. I hate it. Lots. It burns, it stinks, it didn’t work well for me and I hate it.

After the above comments, I’m buying Veet when I get off work!

NADS is a home waxing kit, so be prepared for some self inflicted ouchiness….

There’s also a shaving system that uses something like Veet in that it retards the growth of hair and eventually kills off the hair folicle.

I’ve never had a problem with Nair and my skin is fairly sensitive, but I agree - waxing’s great for long term ignoring of the legs.

I’m another Veet fan. I had an awful reaction to Nair after using it during the summers for two years…I kept on having to leave it on for more and more time for it to work. Veet takes less than half the time, is less messy, and smells so much better. Good luck!

Limo rentals last for a day… Laser hair removal lasts forever!

Best thing that ever happened to me, medically speaking. Movie star armpits for strapless gowns! Carefree honeymoon with lots of summer clothes and swimsuits! No morning stubble anywhere! Never have to shave, pluck, wax… YEAAAAAAAA!

i’ve used both nair and veet, and both gave me horrible burns. i had a worse reaction with veet, but maybe it’s just my skin, although my skin’s not that sensitive. as with anything, just try a bit first. i use an epilator–not as messy as waxing, but the hair still takes 2-4 weeks to grow back. good luck finding what works for you!

My sister and I use the Nair lotion, and it works great for us. One warning: if you hae scabs on your legs (I’m a tom boy, what can I say) it is likely to rip the scabs off.

I can’t get over the stench of Nair and how it seems to linger on your skin for days. Same with self-tanning lotion, for that matter… I don’t know how everyone can use it all summer and put up with the smell!

Nair doesn’t work well on my hair, and stinks like rotting chicken :-P I do some home-waxing (eyebrows, lip, sometimes legs from the knee down) with the Sally Hansen kit- but most of the time I just shave my legs with a Venus 4-blade razor because it’s so much faster. It’s easier to keep track of spots you might be missing if you turn off the shower and shave by sections, covering each area with a layer of shaving cream before going over it methodically, then moving on to the next section.

Loved veet before I had permanent hair laser removal. Now, it’s not an issue…or ever again!

So what kind of veet seems to work the best?
Lotion,cream, wax, mousse?
