About Mrs. Ant

GO TEAM!

May 3rd, 2007 @ 5:10 pm by Mrs. Ant

Charlotte (from Sex and the City) had to convert to Judaism for Harry before he would marry her. For Mr. Ant, I had to convert to a Dallas Mavericks fan.

In the Church of NBA, rules of worship include:

1) Wearing matching jerseys on game night- I’m stunned that he’s willing to wear matching anything. But he actually requested that we both wear the customized Dallas jerseys that his best man got us as a wedding gift. (We were married on 11/06)

CIMG5503

CIMG5504 blurred

2) Couch arrest- I once made the mistake of leaving the TV area to use the bathroom while the game was on. The Mavs didn’t play well while I was away, and it was somehow my fault. silly09 He believes that I am his Lady Luck and that the Mavericks need me to win.

I swear that Mr. Ant normally has reasonable demands and a strong grasp of common sense. But when it comes to his Mavericks team, all sanity goes out the window!

Did anyone else have to “convert” to their man’s favorite sports team?

It’s funny you bring this up. I’m from Houston, but we live in DFW where FH has lived his whole life (obviously we don’t live in his childhood house though!)

I tried cheering for both Houston and Dallas teams. But then FH made some comment about how the Dallas teams aren’t really mine, so I started rooting for the other team! I don’t care who it is, if Dallas plays, I cheer for the opponent. Get em Golden State!

(Sadly, I’d rather cheer for Dallas, but I’m stubborn and will continue to root against them until FH begs me not to… and ONLY if he begs ;))

Yep…although it wasn’t a true conversion since my favorite baseball team is a National League team, and his is an American League team. I do have a jersey, though

Yup! And sorry Mrs. Ant, but I’m with the WARRIORS all the day! I hope the GSW win tonight :) I’ve never been a bigger fan than now…since we got married. My husband has been a fan practically since birth..haha, so yes..I’ve been converted!

I didn’t “have” to become a fan, but FI watches a LOT of sports, so I have slowly been sucked in over the last 3.5 years.

I really don’t mind watching most sports, except golf and baseball. Boring, imo.

Oh, I also meant to ask where your BM got the customized jerseys. We are having a horrible time coming up with something for our GMs.

Welcome to the Mavs fold!

I am required to root for the Red Sox, or at least be generally supportive. Fortunately, I was a baseball agnostic to begin with. As for football, well, we keep our loyalties but never stop bickering over whose team is the real “America’s Team.”

Go Mavs!

My FI went to Michigan so he’s a huge college football fan and I always thought football was boring. So he has 3 football games next season to try and explain the rules to me and get me into rooting for Big Blue!

He has plans for a trip to the Ohio/Michigan game already!

TRUE MAV FAN! We are both from Los Angeles, but I met my beautiful FH while he was working in Dallas and I was studying in London.

He proposed to me at the Mav opening game last year (with Mr. Cubans help).

For some crazy reason watching the MAVS has brought us closer. Perhaps it’s the only sport we enjoy watching together. He loves and plays baseball and hockey….and I can care less.

GO MAVS!!!

omg, you NEVER leave the couch during a game for any reason! that’s what commercials are for. i make my sister stand in the same spot if my team goes on a tear. i’ve even banned her from my room during a few games. haha, so i totally feel mr. ant.

obviously i’m the sports freak in the relationship. the bf groans whenever baseball starts [maybe because i refer to it as my second favorite person in the world behind him] but he has come to appreciate the game though i never make him watch it. we both like football so that’s no problem but i wouldn’t make him convert to my teams [besides, both our football teams SUCK] and we haven’t picked sides in basketball. the only thing i ask is that he hate the red sox. or at least not like them.

We’ve had to compromise on the sports watching. I absolutely abhor sitting around on a beautiful day watching tv, and I find sports games to be especially dull. I’d rather go for a walk, go downtown, do something stimulating. I think part of it stems from holidays where my mom was stuck in the kitchen while dad watched some Bowl game and drank beer.
Somehow I ended up with a guy who was a huge sports fan, so we’ve both had to give a little. I actually enjoy going to “live” games, so I’ll put up with that if he cuts back on his TV watching. I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be able to stand staying in the same room for an entire game on tv, that’s nice of you to do it for your FI.

Our first date was to a minor league baseball game and I went to 9 Astros games last summer! His whole world revolves around Houston sports!! And we both love all the merch! I just have to keep thinking I rather him be addicted to sports than alchohol or porn.

Nope, he never asked me to convert since I had established my fave teams loooong before we started dating. Sometimes we root for the same team, sometimes we’re rooting for opposite teams. It’s a lot of fun since we’re both extremely loyal to our teams. :-)

Sorry, but I’m with Tracy, too. Go WARRIORS!!!

Sorry, but I gotta say it…MY WARRIORS BEAT YOUR TEAM!

I use to watch sports 24/7, my tv was always on ESPN. But when I met my bf I stopped watching. I realized there were other things on. But yea, I’m more of a sports fan than he is. I’ve gotten him to be a Giants fan & Niner fan.

GO WARRIORS! :)

Hi Mrs. Ant! :) It’s nice to hear from you again. And I’m sorry (but not really) to say that I enjoyed watching the game tonight with Mr. Plumeria, where our GSW had themselves a win!! But yeah, I never became a fan until I started dating him. I’ve always been an A’s fan, but now I’m also a Warriors and Niners fan, by sheer influence of course! ;-)

Absolutely not! It’s fine to convert if you didn’t follow sports at all beforehand and your SO convinced you to follow his…. but I have no respect (in terms of being an actual sports fan) for women who ditch their own teams in favor of HIS teams! My fiance knows where I stand — GO STEELERS — and has accepted the fact that I will never support the Eagles (and especially not the Flyers, booooo). There are certain things worth compromising for a relationship, but the sports teams I have supported my entire life do not fall into that category!

I am actually the one who required (requested firmly) that my fiance become a St. Louis Cardinals fan. I have been a fan since I was in the womb, and he didn’t have any baseball allegiances before I came along, so he now has a Cards cap, a red Polo shirt (to wear to the games, of course), a Cards t-shirt (compliments of my mom) and has even been to a game and knows a few of the players by name. His choice was simple - either convert to being a Cardinals fan or not be allowed into the family. :) I think he made a good decision!

well. for football. i was an eagles fan. but i converted to redskins
1. because i’ve lived in md/dc/va area for a while now and
2. he just loves the redskins so much. it’s very touching. even though they lose a lot. i’ve just found the sincere love of the team on the part of a lot of redskins fans, to be so touching. heh.

i was an avid football-hater and now i watch all the penn state and philadelphia eagles football games. i was even the one that won 50-yard line, 2nd row seats to an eagles/steelers game a couple of years ago. of course he hasn’t TOTALLY converted me - i tried to convince him to let me sell them b/c they were worth 2000 bucks a piece but unfortunately i lost.

Lucky for us, we were both die-hard Florida Gator fans before we met. It was one of his endearing qualities, and we both secretly knew we would never marry someone who couldn’t appreciate the finer points of the Gators, the SEC, and college football in general. Even the dogs are Gator fans. Our children are not permitted to attend rival schools unless there are in-state tuition considerations (we live in Georgia at the moment, though that may change).
