Lovely Cakes

May 3rd, 2007 @ 10:30 am by Mrs. Bell Pepper

Even before I started planning our wedding, I loved checking out local cake designers.. Before moving to Philly, I lived in Chicago for most of my life and I discovered The Cake Girls while working close to their studio. They are perhaps my favorite cake designers, I love their modern style and the intricate and delicate flower details. They have an amazing version of a wedding cake adorned with cherry blossoms and I love their gown-inspired cakes..

The Cake Girls:

Although I absolutely adore these wedding cake designs, we settled for a more whimsical cake design. I discovered a cute wedding cake design on this website, and since our honeymoon destination is Paris, the cake is just so appropriate for our wedding:

Kate Sullivan is the cake designer and she created a great book that describes step-by-step instructions on how to make this cake. I gave our cake designer a copy of the cake design instructions, which makes it easier on both of us when it comes to describing the details of the cake.

The biggest challenge about this cake was finding this tiny bicycle cake topper. It is perhaps the most essential component of this cake. Without the cake topper, the cake just wouldn’t be the same! I called Kate Sullivan and she helped me contact several vendors who sell the cake topper in France. I purchased the cake topper from www.pixishop.com, and unfortunately the website is now shut down. If you are interested in purchasing this cake topper, there is another vendor listed in Kate Sullivan’s cake decorating book who is extremely friendly and accomodating to international buyers.

That is an ADORABLE caketopper. I don’t understand why there aren’t more like that out there. (And I’m glad that shop is closed down, no chance for me to be tempted to buy yet *another* cake topper.)

You are going to have an amazing cake, Miss Bell Pepper!

Miss Bell Pepper - your cake topper is SO cute! I went to your provided link, and it sent me to a “placeholder” website… Is your link the right one? Thanks for the info. :)

Tricia,

I think the website is shut down.. When I discovered the website, it was a bit outdated.. it was last update in 1995! I kind of felt nervous ordering the cake topper online because I had no clue if it was still available! It is indeed still available and there are two shop owners in Paris who sell them. Their contact information is in Kate Sullivan’s book, which is available at most Border’s and B&Ns.

It’s funny because I called the pixishop owner just to make sure the cake topper was not discontinued.. I had to learn a little french to communicate with the guy, it was a really amusinv conversation.. I think when we’re in Paris for our honeymoon, I’ll stop by his shop and say “bonjour!”

There’s another shop owner listed in Kate’s book who speaks english more fluently.. He’s extremely helpful and you can fax all your delivery/payment information to his shop. Hope this helps!

Adorable French theme. Interesting cake idea to reflect the honeymoon/engagement location, or another place special to the couple, even the architecture of their home together.

I love your cake and the cake topper is adorable. I’m still searching for the right cake design for my wedding and I like that first picture. It’s very clean and simple, exactly what I’m looking for.

AAAHHHHHH! That third picture shall be my cake. I already have a woman delivering a completely plain square cake, who has been told to expect ribbons and fresh flowers waiting for her at the site. Now she can expect ribbons, fresh flowers, and that picture.

Thank you!

Miss Bell Pepper, my fiance and I have been wanting a bicycle cake topper since the beginning. Before I go tracking the book down and calling the vendors, do you mind if I ask what this French cake topper is going to run me, ballpark?

Mrs Bell Pepper, I was almost giving up on finding this topper - I am now trying to buy it from http://www.pixieboutique.com (reference number PIX3-90591). This is the perfect cake for me as I got engaged under the Eiffel Tower.
