My Second Attempt At Table Numbers

May 3rd, 2007 @ 8:32 am by Mrs. Plum

I went to Hobby Lobby in search of crystal beads to make my table numbers, but came out with these instead - ‘clay’ flowers. (the crystals were wayyyy too expensive!)

Materials needed:
-clay flowers (approx. 2 bunches per digit needed)
-your hands
-patience

the beginnings of a project…

roses

z869626

z86961101
lily of the valley

z869610
calla lilies

the assembly begins….

I just broke apart the original “bouquets” that the flowers came packaged in by ripping the stems out one by one/tearing the floral tape. Then I started twisting the roses together one by one and bent the wire as I went along, creating the desired number shape.

the calla lily number “1″ was easiest - I just left the two “bouquets” as is and twisted their ends together.

The lily of the valley was by far, the most difficult to work with, as they were smaller / had more delicate blossoms than the roses (and I didn’t have to take apart the callas). I also did not want to lose the integrity/look of the lily of the valley, so I had to be careful not to space them too far apart while trying to be frugal with the blooms to save money. silly02

the final products:

I will hang these down from my centerpiece tealight trees

what do you think? yay or nay? I’m undecided…

My Wedding Blog

very nice and original

and it is the effort that pays off

while doing together with your helpers….it is the experience that is memorable…

diy stuff is always good to do…but very time consuming

and ended if there is time shortage, can be very frustrating

so do have a plan to do it..like in steps

“to do what by when?”

Great idea! The 2 is the most beautiful of the three, but honestly, I don’t love the 1. It doesn’t really look like a number to me, except in context next to the others. Would it be difficult to make it a bit more like a typeset 1?

ryc: I bought the clay flowers from Hobby Lobby in their “wedding” section - I think this is a new product for them; i’ve never seen them carry this item before.

I LOVE the 2 and 3 but the 1 looks kind of weird.

Wowzers, beautiful! Also love the 2 and 3 but didn’t initially see the “1″ (but if that’s the bride’s table you will be in the know, so no loss).

The thicker/whiter numbers seem easier to read. Since they are hanging — Will they spin around and be hard to read backwards?

So pretty! I really like the 2 and the 3. The 1 isn’t bad at all, just not as pretty as the 2 and 3. You did a great job!

approximately how much did the clay flowers cost per stem? they would make lovely additions to a bouquet or boutinere.

the clay flowers cost 99 cents for a bunch - you only need 2 per number, so it ran around $2 each per number :)

I like the “2″ & “3″ a lot. I really like the way the “3″ has some leaves coming off of it.

I really am not fond of the “1.” I agree you should try and make it a typeset “1.” Also, what about covering it in flowers like you did with the others?

Other than that, I think they will look GREAT on the trees!

I am impressed with your craftiness and I am in agreement that the 2 looks the best. Not a huge fan of the others, they just look a tiny bit tacky to me. Sorry…BUT I think they might all look better if you stick with roses on all of them- would look more uniform. Plus you could try doing a 1 that has a base with another portion at the top to give that number a little more.
