Our Wedding Venue

May 3rd, 2007 @ 7:33 pm by Mrs. Bell Pepper

I’m already 10 months in the wedding planning process and I have only about a month left until our wedding. It’s scary because I feel like I still have so much to do! Well, I’m trying to wrap things up and there’s a lot to deal with when you’re having a wedding at a museum. Today I contacted all of my vendors to make sure they submitted their liability insurance coverage to the museum’s event coordinator. It was tough to find vendors who had insurance coverage. Several photographers, musicians, florists, and officiants I met with didn’t have coverage, which made the wedding planning process much more painful. Also, there are a lot of rules and restrictions, such as no candlelight or dark wine during the cocktail hour. There’s also an exclusive caterer and cake designer, so I really didn’t have any choice for the reception food. Luckily, the caterer is pretty good (the tasting was delicious~!) and the cake designer has been very sweet and easy to work with..

So here’s our wedding ceremony/reception site:

I fell in love with this museum the moment we visited Philadelphia. It was one of the first places we checked out and I knew that this museum would be perfect for a small wedding. After deciding to choose the PAFA as our wedding venue, Philadelphia’s The Knot magazine featured Rita Kim’s (knottie DRZBride) wedding in the summer 2006 issue. I was surprised that it was so popular, and the photos of the wedding looked so beautiful. I knew this was the perfect place to have our wedding.

Here’s the ceremony location:

Here’s a shot of the balcony where our family members will be seated. Behind the balcony is where the cocktail hour will be held..

Through June the PAFA will have Thomas Eakin’s famous painting “The Gross Clinic”, featuring the legendary Philadelphia doctor Samuel D. Gross. I hope this exhibition will still be around on our wedding day. It might be an interesting exhibit to check out for our fellow residents and family members.

Actually, I really thought this venue would cost a fortune. I talked to the event coordinator and since our wedding is less than 100 guests, the rental fee turned out to be very reasonable, only $2000. I was expecting to spend at least $4000. The catering prices were also great and we didn’t have to worry about renting linens, chairs, etc. since everything is already included. The total cost for rental and catering is about $10,000 for our guest count. It’s really not too bad, you just need to work things out with all the vendors to get the price you want.
