About Mrs. Emerald

Pros Versus Joes

May 3rd, 2007 @ 3:26 pm by Mrs. Emerald

Since I am most certainly not a “Pro,” I must be a Joe… As I mentioned not too long ago, I had the little luxury of having my makeup done by one of Chicago’s most highly coveted makeup artists, Sonia Roselli, on the day of our Engagement shoot! (More details on the shoot once I have some pictures to post!) She was an absolute sweetheart, despite the fact that we showed up a bit early and she was slightly unprepared for our arrival. Mr.E kept himself entertained by playing with her big ole dog and two Siamese cats. Once our photographer arrived, the four of us had a great time hanging out and chatting (while she did my makeup, of course). Sonia even mixed me up a custom lip gloss, with cappucino/creme brulee flavoring, hehe. I must say, the airbrush makeup was fabulous!! It felt like a fine mist barely dusting my face, but the result was flawless and light!

So here is a BEFORE picture… me with just barely any makeup on. (Don’t you just love taking self portraits of yourself?! *blech*)

And here is the AFTER. I admit, I had to restrain myself from wiping off the many layers of blush. I just trusted the fact that she knew what would look best in photos, since she is obviously a pro.

And here’s another shot of a makeup application from the Bobbi Brown counter a few weeks ago.

Lessons learned:

1. It’s all about your SKIN. I really want to achieve a “flawless” look on my wedding day…

2. PILE on the blush (however, this opinion may change depending on how I think I look in the e-pix!). Sonia used Nars Orgasm on my cheeks, which I referenced a while back as well.

3. DON’T be afraid of black eyeliner. Normally I use dark brown, but black is so much more dramatic!

4. Must practice using the mini clusters of false lashes. Sonia didn’t have any on hand yesterday, but I think they would have added a little bit of va-va-voom to the look. winky04

What am I forgetting?

i like the bobbi brown best…i don’t know, the pro makeup application looks like too much, but it could also be the lighting in the pictures.

I really like how you look… so pretty and fresh and not over-loaded with makeup. I think you could use a little more lip gloss though.

Charlene! How random is it to find you with wedding makeup on?! Congrats! I just confirmed with Jennie that you’re getting married. Send my best to Borden! You two make such a cute couple.

Wow, you have gorgeous coloring to begin with, so go with whatever you think enhances your look in pictures! Both pics are great!

I’m considering using your photographer (Dennis Lee, right?) for my engagement pictures this summer. I would love to hear about your experience!

P.S. I love the blush– you look so cute and fresh-faced. They use the term “blushing bride” for a reason!

the bobbi brown one has a more natural look. the pro one looks kind of heavy and it makes your eyebrows look super hairy/bushy. heh

You’re very, very pretty! Love the blush. Did she put eyeliner under your eye too? I think it makes your eyes look a little bit smaller.

You’re very, very pretty! Love the blush. Did she put eyeliner on the inner rim of your bottom lid too? I think it makes your eyes look a little bit smaller.
