The Reality of It All

May 3rd, 2007 @ 9:28 am by Mrs. Plumeria

It’s hit me rather suddenly that I am less than two weeks away from the wedding day. I’ve been spending pretty much every waking moment, aside from work, with Mr. Plumeria, and it really tickles me when I realize that soon, he’ll be my husband! When I look at him, I’m just overwhelmed inside by the fact that I get to marry such a sweet, humble, and supportive guy. We have our bad days — don’t get me wrong — but I know that when it all boils down, I’m incredibly blessed to be with someone like him. I’m soooo excited!Besides that, it’s come to my attention that I still have a TON of stuff to do… so get ready for a load of posts of the results of my procrastination as we get closer and closer to the big day! :) I’ve been somewhat of a sporadic blogger in the past couple of months, but now it’s really coming down to the wire… and I want to share the craziness with you all! Here’s some of what’s on my to-do list for the next week and a half:

- Placecards
- Cookie Favor packaging (for after ceremony)
- Favors (for during reception)
- Programs
- Finalize makeup choices
- Pick a veil :-P
- Draw maps of reception tables
- Figure out all that guestbook stuff
- Goodie bags for the few children attending the wedding
- DIY Sculpey Cake topper… big ideas for this one
- Write my vows… yeah, this will take more thought than the rest of the above!
- Other stuff I am forgetting right now

… I promise you all, I work better under pressure, with strict deadlines… I really do! Definitely more to come. And pictures next time, for sure. ;-)

I hear ya, Miss Plumeria–I have four weeks left, and my list is a lot longer than yours. Yikes! And just when I think I’m getting a handle on it, new things pop up. For example, we thought we’d do online-only registries. Everyone’s online, right? Easier for everyone. We decided we didn’t care that much about completion programs and other perks, it’s all about making it easy for the guests. Well, some of our guests cannot handle online ordering. They’ve never bought anything online, they’re sure their card # will get stolen, why can’t we do a normal registry. So yesterday we were at Big Box Store & Beyond, scanner gun in hand, trying to find different things that we might like to have. I also moved some items from one registry to the other. Don’t get me wrong, I’m very touched that people are getting us gifts, it’s something I’m still having a hard time wrapping my brain around: I get to marry the best guy in the world AND get presents too! Score! It’s just that I don’t need any more stress right now, and we thought we were making it so easy for everyone…

Miss Plumeria, you have such a great sense of humor about it. Good for you ignoring the “The Knot” Taskmaster’s List of Bridal Insanity. You must be very cool, calm and collected indeed to have “pick a veil” on your to-do list 2 weeks out. : ) I was the same way. It does come together somehow.

Enlist some help so you have time to get rest and exercise and take care of yourself so you feel your best. It’s OK if some things never get done.

Pencils — I feel your pain about silly last-minute burdens on the bride. The day before the wedding, an aunt was asking where to buy pantyhose (any drugstore!), a girlfriend wanted directions to the ceremony which was being held at a well-known federal landmark (read the stuff we sent you or use Google or mapquest!), the florist needed ongoing emotional reassurance that she was doing a nice job (yes, lovely, just do your job, please!)… like you really have time for all this at that point… Definitely get a few “buffer” people in place to handle such triffles so you can get back to concentrating on your upcoming new life.

That’s a long list so close to the wedding. I’m sure everything will look beautiful in the end. Good luck with everything!
