About Mrs. Pumpkin

Ciao Bella!

May 4th, 2007 @ 8:35 am by Mrs. Pumpkin

Our hotel rooms for Italy are booked and all through AIRMILES! I’m not sure if there is a similar program in the States but if not, there should be! Airmiles is a loyalty program where you collect “miles” by buying your gas at certain stations, your groceries at certain stores, using certain credit cards, etc. The best thing about it is that you are earning “miles” on things that you would be buying anyway, and you can use the “miles” on a number of different travel options or you can also redeem them for merchandise.Anyhow, we have been saving for about a year and a half and so we had enough miles to pay for 7 nights of hotels in Italy, taxes included. So, we are staying 2 nights at the Sheraton Roma in, you guessed it!, Rome.

And then we have 2 nights in Venice staying at the Hotel Des Bains Lido Resort.

And then 3 nights in Florence staying at the Westin Excelsior.

Don’t they look fantastic! I can’t believe that we get to stay there for free! Now we just have to reserve the hotels for our first week in Europe, and of course we will book through Airmiles so that we can earn *more* miles! Are you using any sort of “points” or “miles” for your honey or mini-moon?

My extremely generous and kind parents gave my FI and I their air miles for all of our flights to Hawaii and our interisland flights once we are there! What a huge help that was! They never use them since my dad accumulates them through business and my mom is afraid to fly, so they did see any point in saving anymore. They even have some leftover. They told us last summer we had enough miles to go just about anywhere so start thinking of our dream honeymoon! We were in shock!

WOW, that looks like a great honeymoon! You are going to have such a good time. And that’s so incredible that you are getting all of that for free. What a deal! You’ll have to let us know how you like the place in Venice- is that actually on the island of Lido, or is it just called the Lido? If it’s on the island of Lido, you might really appreciate being able to get away from the hub-bub of Venice in the evening- Venice is the most incredible place in the world, but it can be a bit overwhelming on the senses! I hope you have a great time!!

oh my gosh!!! :O :O :)

made me so envious….

how i wish i can go there for my honeymoon

but due to budget….it is too expensive

we only managed to spend about US$3000 for a trip to Seoul, South Korea where we saw snow for the first time

yes, I stayed in Singapore and it is a tropical country….so terribly hot right now!!!

:(

My fiance is (his term, not mine) a Marriott wh*re. Most of our hotels for our two week trip to Italy are through Marriott and our flights (business class) on US Air were with his miles.

The only frustration was having to book our honeymoon a day later than we wanted to because you can only book miles 1 year in advance.

My parents generously got us tickets to Alaska with their miles, then thanks to my husband’s (we’re taking a belated honeymoon!) mad skills with the Hilton card, we got several nights free at Hilton properties. Using those points and miles is letting us splurge on other things we couldn’t have otherwise.

Nice! I just wanted to say Florence is a beautiful city! I studied for 2 months! That city is full of culture and the arts!! Enjoy!

I’m from Canada too. :)

Because of all my business travel, I was able to book two business class tickets on Air Canada to Montego Bay from Toronto. Still had to pay the tax but so worth it. Makes the honeymoon (somewhat) affordable.

I also booked two nights at the Courtyard Marriott for the night before and of the wedding with my Marriott points.

It’s great to have frequent flyer/hotel miles.

Enjoy your Italian honeymoon.

Since my family had cruised on Carnival before and we were in their system, we got some kind of deal when we booked our honeymoon cruise - we got the room with a balcony for the price of an inside stateroom without any windows! (Of course, they say we are special, but I bet they would be running similar deals for “first time” cruisers too!)

Miss Pumpkin, is there a list of places that Airmiles works at? I couldn’t find it on their site…

Kandice, these might not be stores you know if you’re in the USA, but Airmiles are accepted at Safeway grocery stores, and I think Esso gas stations… or is it Shell? It’s one of the two anyway!

Miss Pumpkin what a great reminder to check my Airmiles balance and see if we have enough points for our honeymoon flights, that would be awesome. We’ve been using Airmiles for 3 years or so, and have another year and a bit before the wedding, so we just might have enough to pay for part of the honeymoon… your vacation looks like it will be fabulous!

Yes, hoarded frequent flyer miles for years and had 100% free airfare!

Miss Pumpkin - I, too, am going to Italy for our hm! What a great deal you got from Airmiles. We are paying for our own lodging but FI’s parents are generously giving us their frequent flier miles for our plane tickets. :)

Hi Miss Pumpkin:
Another fellow Canadian here (Vancouver).
I wanted to tell you that your hotel choices are excellent! I went to Italy 2 years ago and stayed at the Sheraton Roma hotel. It was a little outside of the city but they have a huge shuttle bus that leaves the hotel every hour to take you to the tourist areas of Rome.
Amazing customer service, great rooms and delicious food at their restaurant.
You’ll love it!

Melanie

Holy cow those pic look awesome. Airmiles sounds fantastic too! Do they have anything like that in the United States? If so, I never heard of it…. There are a few Online Hotel Sites that specialize in affordable lodging, but I haven’t seen or heard anything abouty collecting “miles” for hotels….
