I Need Your Autograph Please…

Love these alternative guestbook flickr finds. I am seriously considering doing something similiar to the first one or third one.

“This was such a beautiful idea. Beside the frame was this note:

During a trip to Tokyo, we enjoyed watching many generations of visitors to a Sensoji temple, Asakusa Temple. Each would come to read their fortune and write a note to tie on the wire. We have adapted this idea and incorporated it into our wedding in lieu of the traditional guestbook. We would like each of you to take a sheet of paper and write anything that you would like on the paper. At the end of the evening, our photographer will take a photograph of all the notes on the wire. We plan to frame this and place it within our home, in order to serve as a reminder of this wonderful day that we have shared with all of you.” - mvcork from flickr

This works well because its a b&w photo plus the couple isn’t looking directly into the camera.

The husband was a huge baseball fan, so provided nice ink pens and had guests sign baseballs.

Vintage typewriter so guests can type in a note. I like this idea because it’s fast (if you’re a fast typer). I hate being rushed to sign in and get seated. If we decide to do a book, I might just have someone pass it around the reception just so people can sit and think about what to write.

Who says the guestbook has to be wedding related with pictures of us? I love this.

How unique! Those are some great options. My BM wants to do the polaroid pics/message guest book for me. I am still undecided.

Building on the coffeetable book idea — Could make a photo book (e.g., via Shutterfly) of your own photos (baby, dating, engagement) and have guests sign throughout. What I like about this is it satisfies the often technologically-difficult “slideshow” concept, makes a meaningful compact memento, and it invites people to select a page and make a comment related to the photo of you at a particular stage/age in your life. Besides photos of the bride and groom, could include photos of/with family and friends who are in the wedding party or who are guests, even deceased grandparents, etc.

Iris- that’s a great idea. My MOH had a slide show and what I loved most about it was that she included pictures of us in europe, spain, college etc. It would be great and guests can sign “their” page. Looks like I got my guest book idea now. thanks iris thanks Miss apple! 2 brains are better than 1. :)

We’re doing the wish bowl. I bought three colors of 4 bar cards and envelopes, which I will put out with a lot of pens, and a sign that says to write your wishes or advice to us. I’m hoping that guests will take their time over them, or write more than one. Then after the wedding we’ll mount the envelopes, flap side out, in an album so we can read them later. I don’t quite see the point of a signature guest book–we know who we invited, why do we need their signatures? The wish bowl seems more personal and useful. And since it’s not one book to be passed around, I hope to get thoughtful responses. I just have to get my dad to write out the sign in nice calligraphy! After I think of what to write. Suggestions? Help? ;)

I considered the typewriter idea when I saw it in MS Weddings about a year ago, epsecially because my paternal grandfather was a typewriter repairman, but all the fine old typewriters we own (most of which he worked on!) are just too frustrating for people to use these days. Using a manual typewriter is hard work, even if the keys don’t stick. And you know they will.

The current plan is to have three odd-shaped boxes marked “wishes,” “wisdom,” and “wit” (stolen from a knot bio I saw once), with a bazillion pieces of paper. I want people to feel welcome to leave as many notes as they want, so it has to be clear that there’s more than one per person (I’m thinking 4-6 per person–why not?). I’m expecting at least one person to drop in a cryptogram or other puzzle, and another friend just to write one word per card and make us figure out what order they go in.

Miss Snow Pea, thanks! How I wish I’d had time to do that for our wedding, so I hope yours turns out great!

We are doing a coffee table book on all the famous landmarks and sites of Philadelphia. Since we’re getting married in Philly, but I’m not from the area and have never lived there (and neither has a single person from my half of the guest list), we’re doing the wedding with a Philly theme. The natural choice then, for our sign in book, was a Philadelphia-themed coffee table book. We picked one with gorgeous pictures and large margins, so everyone should have plenty of room to sign. Plus, it will look lovely displayed on our actual coffee table, whereas I would never display just a normal sign-in book, and it would just collect dust in a forgotten corner of a bookshelf.
