It’s Mother’s Day next Sunday! I think getting your FMIL a mother’s day gift is a super sweet idea that she’s sure to appreciate.

I’m making a bracelet out of leftover beads from the bridesmaids’ necklaces. I will be FDIL of the year!

I would love to do this but FI and his sister don’t even know what they are doing for her. We will all be around her since FSIL is getting married the day before but they are going to “play it by ear” and aren’t planning anything ahead of time. I would be ashamed if I showed up with a card and/or gift and they did nothing. No thank you.

bunny, I think they would be the ones who should be ashamed! Maybe you could be the ring leader and at least get some flowers or something, or offer to get something that they can pitch in for- I think it’s worth the extra time. But all families have their own dynamic, so I am just going based on all the mothers I have known that would be unhappy to be played by ear and then forgotten in any way- maybe this woman is more chill

Sarah, your MIL sounds like a sweetie. Mine would manage to find a way to take offense (e.g., “Oh, they’re the “leftover” beads…) ugh, no pleasing her. It’s Everybody Loves Raymond’s lovely MIL for me!

I can do no wrong. She’s got three kids in their 30s, my fiance is the only one in any kind of relationship, and she’s sick of seeing her friends’ pictures of their grandchildren. My mere existence makes me FDIL of the year in her world.

Sure, it may wear off one day, but for now, I’m going to run with it.
