About Mrs. Pumpkin

Sk8er Boi

May 5th, 2007 @ 2:20 pm by Mrs. Pumpkin

Mr. Pumpkin is a punk. I obviously mean that in the best possible sense of the word, but it is true! In fact, maybe we can call him Mr. Punkin’ from now on! He loves punk music, has a mohawk in his drivers license picture and often has a goatee so long that I can grab it and shake his head around when need be.

Now, I never “did” ballet (gotta love Avril’s grammar) and I am far from a princess, but I am also FAR from a punk. I love hip hop and girly clothes and TV shows like The Hills. Our relationship has long been a mystery to our friends and family but somehow, we work it out. He goes to shows with his buddies, I go dancing with my girlfriends, he has “rock concerts” (listening to music really really loud through earphones) while I watch my “silly” TV shows. We compromise and it all works out in the end.

So, when we went to look at tuxes for the wedding and they showed us the shoe choices, I could tell that Mr. Punkin’ was dreading wearing any of them. It just isn’t his style to wear anything shiny on his feet. So, I present to you Mr. Punkin’s wedding shoes!

His BM will wear the same style, and I actually think that they will look great! My Mom is fairly horrified and was hoping that they would at least be all black but I love the white stripe - what’s the point of wearing something sort of unique if no one else can tell! For the most part his shoes will be covered by his pant leg anyway, but every once in a while guests will catch a glimpse of the Vans stripe and know that Mr. Punkin’ is alive and kicking in that monkey suit he’s wearing.

Are the men in your wedding party adding any unique details to the suits or tuxes that they are wearing?

Awww that’s too cute!! I LOVE it when couples put a little of their own personalities into details like this instead of just doing what they’re “supposed” to do! I think he’ll look great, feel more comfortable, and everyone who knows him will just see the real him shining through a bit more!

Those shoes are great! We’re trying to decide between having the groomsmen (and FI) wear black chucks (low-top converse) or black vans slip-ons. I want them to look like their indie selves, but I don’t want it to look super random. I think we’re going to order both kinds from zappos and see how they each look.

My man & his guys are wearing old school vans skate shoes as well but in espresso. I felt I was completely controlling every aspect of the wedding - not that he minds not having to make decisions but I wanted things to be about the both of us and stuffy dress shoes are definetely not him AT ALL.

Love it. In fact, my fiance mentioned the same thing to me…and I’m gonna let him. :)

I recall a photo in MS Weddings where a huge group of groomsmen all had different horrible bright argyle socks, which they mentioned was a tradition that one of them had started at another’s wedding. I’m all for that. My fiance and I have matching shoes (yes, my wedding shoes are about balf black) because we used the wedding as an excuse to buy decent dance shoes. At a dance last night, he was slipping all over the floor in those shoes, and changed back into his black pinstripe All-Stars, so I mentioned that he was allowed to wear those at the wedding if he’d be more comfortable.

I’m surprised you didn’t bust out all Hot Topic and get black creepers with flames painted on them. That would be awesome! I should email the groomsmen to let them know that Docs are allowed if they don’t like the rental shoes from the tux place (and who does, really?). The bridesmaids would be so jealous–I made them get matching David’s Bridal shoes for the ceremony and photos, but I did also say those shoes don’t have to stay on all night. One already announced she found some silver flip-flops she plans to change into.

I think those are great shoes. It’s been a long time, but I was a punk myself back in the day. And when I say “back in the day,” I mean a LONG time. I saw the original Clash, for example. Anyway, I bought a lovely pair of expensive silk bridal shoes, but I also just bought an adorable pair of pale yellow Chuck Taylors with flowers and a tiny ladybug appliqued on them. (Pale yellow is one of my wedding colors.) I’ll wear them for walking on the grass for photos, and if my beautiful shoes start to hurt later in the reception. And, yes, I definitely want some photos of them!

My guy and his guys are all going to wear matching black patent leather Nike Dunks. I think our wedding date is going to be engraved on the shoes somewhere too! They are some of the dressiest sneakers I have ever seen. I think it will look really good. It’s always good to inject a little more personality into your wedding.

our boys are wearing brown chuck taylors with argyle socks with their brown suits - My mom doesn’t think it’s ‘formal’ enogh for an evening wedding, but it’s what we want so we’re going for it!!!

He’s gonna have happy feet! Make sure the photographer gets a good shot of the shoes.

We thought about doing flip flops, but as is we’re giving the guys flips to wear after the ceremony.

Also, the dudes are wearing all black, a la Johnny Cash, so I think they feel like rock stars. ;-)
