About Mrs. Bell Pepper

I think I love my wedding jewelry more than my wedding dress. I’m obsessed with things that *sparkle* and I like to add a little *bling bling* to whatever I own. Since I started wedding planning, I collected a great deal of jewelry from wholesale shops in NYC popular couture bridal accessories shops online, and bridal consignment boutiques in the Philadelphia area.

My first two brooches were purchased from a mall kiosk vendor at King of Prussia. The owner is Korean and she sells a a lot of rhinestone hair jewelry/combs and brooches for reasonable prices. I bought two of her brooches hoping I could use them for my wedding dress, applying one to my sash and the other to the side of my dress. We took a look at the brooches, and sadly, they didn’t work so well with my dress. I was really frustrated because I thought the brooches were really stunning but I didn’t know what to do with them..

When it came to finding my bridal clutch, I really didn’t like what I was seeing at most department stores and bridal boutiques. The clutches were kind of simple and ordinary; I wanted something that added a lot of *bling bling*! These are a few clutches I liked from Perfect Details. They look so beautiful but the price ranges were too high for what I was looking for:

Looking carefully at the designs of some of these expensive clutches, I realized I could DIY my own clutch easily by buying a simple clutch and adding a few brooches to the side. I found a pretty ivory satin clutch from an outlet store at Franklin Mills for about $20 and added my two brooches to the side of the clutch. Here’s how it looks together:

Not bad! The brooches were very easy to pin on and the whole project took only a few seconds. No mess to clean up afterwards too! There’s plenty of affordable brooches you can find at Macy’s, and Nordstrom. I love the ones from White Aisle, and check out any consignment or antique stores in your area. One of my favorite brooches is vintage in style, it’s the middle one in the top photo. I love all the inclusions and golden tones that are found within the crystals. It may not be as sparkly as the other newer brooches but it definitely has some character compared to the rest.

Very pretty. Great color combination.

I wonder what it would look like with a tuft of feathers or maybe rough-edged mesh-y silk peeking out from underneath the brooches?
