About Beehive

Beehive

May 8th, 2007 @ 4:21 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  1. Kim is in the market for a good, affordable NYC florist for birthday/celebration arrangements. Any suggestions would be appreciated tremendously!
  2. chrisseli is looking for a nice Chinese restaurant in Orange County (as close to Dana Point as possible) to host her rehearsal dinner. Recommendations, anyone?
  3. Aliya would like the hive to weigh in on her Great Chair Cover Debate! Her reception hall chairs are deep red with grey metal trim (which doesn’t match her colors of orange and pink). She realizes that the decor would be much improved by chair covers, but she’d have to put them on herself the day before. Is it worth the hassle?

Aliya - is it you yourself that needs to do it or could you rope a young cousin or friend who’s not in the party but really wants to help do it? I think it would be worth it if you could afford it and find someone responsible that would be willing to do it. Friends are always more than willing to help, but don’t always know where you need it! So be sure to ask!

aliya - if you can afford it, have the chair cover vendor do the set up and tear down. not sure how big your wedding is but putting on chair covers is no fun. and, you’d want to make sure the bow is tied nicely. if the vendor did it, it will be. if friends/family did it…not so sure. chair covers all the way! i had to really convince my fiancƒ© it would be worth it. it was a hard battle but i won. :P

i think it’s worth it :) our chair covers made a huge difference at our venue..at first i felt ridiculous for wanting them, but in the end..i feel like it definitely made the venue look SOO much nicer. i agree with thistleorchid though, can you get someone else to do them?

Kim,
You may want to try http://www.designsbyroseinc.com

Rose and Doris are great, affordable, patient and they make housecalls! Best of luck!

Chrisseli: There’s a nice SAM WOO Restaurant in Irvine which is where my sister had her rehearsal dinner. They were very accomodating and are fairly close to Dana Point.

Our venue threw in free chair covers as part of a package, but it wasn’t something I cared about or would have paid extra for. I figure the chairs would be covered with people who are dressed up and happy, and what looks better than that? : )

But if you are doing them, definitely delegate. This should be pretty low-priority for your own personal time that close to the wedding.

Oooh, I was waiting for another Hive! I am looking for some nice plastic plates/cups/silverware for my lunch reception. It’s a semiformal vintage garden theme, and we’re having a buffet of sandwiches, wraps, and other fun lunch foods. I’ve been thinking about just looking at Sam’s Club or another big party store, but was wondering if someone has seen something that isn’t super expensive but still looks nicer than your average plasticware.

i have really bad acne scars on my back from my teenage years, they’re pretty much on m y upper back but since so many dresses are backless (and i’d like to wear one of them too), do you have any solutions for healing the scars? i’m thinking more in terms of products and medication. thanks!

Cindy: I’ve heard Mederma works (its OTC), but might be a bit tedious to use. The directions indicate that you should apply it 3-4 times daily. Other alternatives? Maybe a back facial/peel from a dermatologist?

CBeth–Plum Party has a lot of unusual and pretty paper plates, plastic silverware, cups, etc. They’re not cheap, but they have some really amazing items. I really like the “China pavilion” line that look like Blue Willow china.

cindy — I also heard good things about Mederma.

I had success w/ a drugstore tape-on silicone patch, myself. (Tip - use medical tape; some tapes are less itchy/irritating than others.)

Aliya - Why not see if you can upgrade for chivari chairs and forego the chair covers all together. The price might be a tad higher (but at the last minute see if they will cut you a deal) and save yourself the hassle and completely overhall your look too.

Miss Kiwi’s post got me thinking about signatures, that lead me to thinking about signing the marriage liscense, which brings me to my question: What name do you sign? Your new one? Your old one?

Regarding the Chivari chairs from a previous post, I love them, wanted them, and got a quote on them for my wedding… and then about fell out of my chair.
Standard white folding chairs: $1.75 each
Chivari chairs: $15+ each
I think we’re going to do the cheap chairs and maybe have chair covers. There’s no way I’m spending $2000 on places for people to put their hiney. Although I wish I could… they are soooo pretty.

Katie - you sign your maiden name as it is a contract between you and your husband and your name is not officially changed until such a contract has been made and you then go through the appropriate channels with the other agencies (SS, lisence, etc).

Misslisa - have you looked into Lindt? Not cheap, but cheaper than godiva and still yummy. Also, if you’re in New England, Lake Champlain chocolates are really tasty. See if there’s a local chocloatier near you.

I’m looking for a make up/hair person in the chicago area. Anyone know of a make up and hair stylist that does asian hair and make up?

My coordinator found chivari chairs in the Philadelphia area that rent for $3-$5 each. They really make a room look nicer!
