About Beehive

Beehive

May 9th, 2007 @ 4:16 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  1. CBeth is looking for some nice plastic plates/cups/silverware for her lunch reception. She’s having a semiformal vintage garden theme, with a buffet of sandwhiches, wraps, and other fun lunch foods. She’s considering checking out Sam’s Club and party stores, but has anyone seen anything nice, that isn’t too expensive?
  2. Bella would like to know where online to find really cute thank-you cards for shower gifts?
  3. After reading Miss Blueberry’s post about hair removal, Liz just bought Veet gel cream. Does anyone know how long one application lasts?
  4. cindy is hoping to wear a backless dress, but she has bad acne scars from her teenage years. Can anyone suggest a good product and/or medication?
  5. misslisa is in the market for a good alternative to Godiva chocolates; can anyone recommend something that’s just as delicious, but better-priced (for wedding favors)?
  6. Katie would like to know: when signing the marriage license, do you sign your maiden name, or your married name?
  7. Jill is hoping to find a makeup artist/hair stylist in the Chicago area–specifically, one that specializes in Asian hair and makeup. Recommendations, anyone?
  8. Jessi has some questions about SASEs and burning digital pics on CDs (to give to guests to return with their photos, as opposed to using disposable cameras). Can anyone help?
  9. Hopinkertons would like to find out exactly what should be in a florist’s contract. She’s included the specific flowers and colors she wants, plus the cost of each item–but she has some questions about the sizing and pricing of centerpieces and vases. Can anyone advise?

cindy- i have not tried it on acne scars, but Mederma that scar lessening cream worked wonders on several other scars that I have on my arms. You might try that.

misslisa - I love Dove chocolate - it is wonderful but not as pricey.

Katie - you need to sign the marriage license with your legal name at the time of signing, which will still be your maiden name.

CBeth– partypro.com has a large selection and decent prices.

misslisa–this might be a nice place to slide in some local flavor–try using google maps to find an artisan chocolatier near you.

Bella- http://www.rockscissorpaper.com has the 25% sale going on right now on everything and I think their thank you’s are pretty darn cute. I would also check your local Target store. They have super cute thank you’s- some really modern or retro… and some by Anna Griffin that look elegant yet home made. I hope this helps!

I also have a question for the hive - I’m looking for one of those stamps you put into wax to make wax seals. I’d love one that has the word love on the stamp.

MissLisa, I am all about Lindt. They have wonderful milk, dark, and white chocolate balls with smooth centers and harder shells. I guess they are called Truffles. This would be kind of an in between choice if you were deciding between Godiva and Dove I guess.

Cindy I think your best bet might be to consult with a dermatologist. I just recently started seeing one for bumps on my arm and whatever she prescribed seems to really be helping (sorry can’t remember names of medication).

Bella, I got some thank you cards from rockpaperscissors yesterday and used HAPPY at checkout for the discount. One of the cards I got had an umbrella on the front, so perfect for a shower.

misslisa - Giradelli or Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. Also, DIY chocolate strawberries are very affordable and also classy (depending on the volume, you probably need some bridesmaid help with that)

cindy - I don’t have suggestions on scar removal product but as a backup you may want to find a really good concealer.

Katie - Your current legal name, you then use it to verify your name change after marriage.

Hopinkertons - Most florists have a standard contract, feel free to ask them for it to go over the terms. They do not usually go into as much detail as you ask, but I think it also depends on the florist (and the client). I’d expect, at a minimum, an item list of what you ordered (e.g. 15 medium size centerpieces, 2 rose corsages…). If you are very particular about your flowers, you can request your florist to put the specifics on that list. If your florist comes recommended or is one with good reputation, I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

misslisa–Suggest you try a small chocolate shop like Varsano’s in New York (http://www.varsanos.com/). They have a small little four piece gift box that they do with ribbons that is perfect as a favor.

1. CBeth - I don’t know if they qualify as inexpensive, but I really like the disposable bamboo plates from bambu:

misslisa-Hershey’s chocolate is wonderful! I’m from near Hershey, PA , so I grew up on the stuff, but it is by far my favorite! Hershey makes “kisses” and “hugs” and they are customizable with different colors.

Bella- Paper Style (www.paperstyle.com) and Now and Forever (www.now-and-forever.com) has cute stationary for thank you cards.

Hopinkertons- The Knot has a great check list for florist contracts (http://www.theknot.com/ch_article.html?Object=AI91228153619). Hope that helps!

CBeth–I think I posted this in the other hive, but Plum Party has wonderful party stuff and tableware. Can be a little hard to navigate the site, though.

Can anyone recommend a good, but reasonably priced hair salon/stylist and/or makeup person in Long Island, NY. We’re getting married near Hauppauge and Bay Shore, but don’t live around there. Thanks!

I’m looking for a recommendation on flower girl dress websites. I need 2 flower girl dresses one in 18 mos and one in 3T. I would really like them to match. Since its high wedding season many of the ones I’ve found are already sold out in one or the other size :(

Does anyone have any good pictures and/or directions for ceremony programs affixed to palm fans or sandalwood fans? The pictures I’ve seen are fans either glued directly to the palm fan itself or attached.

Hello Bees
I need your help again =)
we got engaged over fondue so for our engagement party, I was thinking of having fondue sets for our centerpiece. Do you know of any diy ideas for this? I don’t wanna spend a lot cuz I will have 12 tables and even 10 bux each set will already cost me 60 bux just for the set.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks

Does anyone know the proper way to handle tipping for caterers? Like I know you should tip the servers, but what if they just come and drop off the food or simply refill dips and stuff? Is there a standard that you know of?
