C Is For Cookie…

May 9th, 2007 @ 9:34 am by Mrs. Plumeria

… and also for Costco, where Mr. Plumeria and I ended up buying them. We got a few hundred, so each guest will get one of these buttery, flaky treats (though by the time I’m through with them we might be a just a few short… ;-) they’re yummy; what can I say?). We’re planning to pass these out directly after the ceremony, as our guests are exiting the church. The reception venue is a very short drive away, but just the same, we thought it would be nice to give each person a little edible token of thanks to tide them over ’til the actual meal. Heart shape = bonus. :)

Another check off the To-Do list made this past weekend… packaging up these babies. When I had the invitations run at the press, I asked the printer whether there was any extra “waste” room on the press sheet, which, if I could use it, would essentially be an extra item printed for free, using the same custom inks and paper I’d specified for the invites. When she told me there was just a strip about 2″x8″ my mind raced ahead, trying to think of what I could make to use up the space besides the obvious (uh, wedding bookmark, anyone?). Here’s what I came up with: a fold-over tab for the cookies. Cookies — placed individually in small, waxed glassine food bags and folded down twice; tabs — scored and folded in half and stapled over the tops of the bags.

On one side of the tab… a simple thank-you with the same design as all the other stationery, names blurred in these pics…

And on the other side, taking into account the distribution time of the cookies: directions from the church to the reception site. Ulterior motive for cookie revealed: easy access to directions should, theoretically, help everyone get to the reception site super speedily so it starts on time… right? Hahaha!

Too cute! I had also planned on doing a small edible favor for after the ceremony, and having a basket of maps/directions, but I may have to take a little inspiration from your idea.

So resourceful! Other scraps to save — trimmings from getting the wedding dress hemmed/altered. Great for scrapbook and — if you have enough — making a ring pillow, garter, etc.

Yea, handing out directions to the reception at the church! How many people forget their directions that are mailed to them in advance? Awesome!

Thanks everyone!! I hope I have given you a good idea… they’re cheap, pretty and delicious. I think I’ll keep one for myself. Hehe :)

Anyway, I got the bags from Ebay seller kenjudy. They have several auctions that have as many as 1000 bags (if you need that many, I think I won an auction for 500), and most of the auctions have the “best offer” option. I ended up getting all of the bags, made of food-safe, waxed glassine, for less than $30. HTH!

Miss Plumeria: I love this idea! I am trying to decide on whether or not to do a favor at my reception. I love the idea of having one, but with 200 guests, most of the ideas I have come up with get out of hand quickly in terms of budget. Is this your main “favor” or are you doing something additional at the reception?

yum palmiers! we are going to do something similar, only they will be cookies and philly soft pretzels (we’re getting married around philly), and bottled water. it’s 40 minutes between the ceremony and reception sites.

I like it! What size bags did you get and did you just seal it with staples? Also how far in advance do you think I can make it before the wedding?

Ah, I’m so bad at following up.

karen - I think they were about 4×6 or something and I got them off eBay for cheap — search for glassine bags and make sure the description says “food safe.” They were just sealed with staples because they were assembled the night before the wedding. Unless you come up with another way to seal them I wouldn’t recommend assembling them earlier than that. :)

These were not our favors, but just a snack to tide people over during the trip b/t the church and reception place. They had the additional purpose of providing directions between the two locations too. All of the graphics were designed by me (I’m a graphic designer).
