About Beehive

Beehive

May 10th, 2007 @ 4:48 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  1. k is looking for the stamps used to make wax seals, particularly one with the word “love” on it. Suggestions?
  2. Kara would like recommendations for a good, reasonably priced hair salon/stylist and/or makeup artist in Long Island. She’s getting married near Hauppauge and Bay Shore, but doesn’t know the area.
  3. Sept Bride needs suggestions for flower girl dress websites. She needs two dresses (18 mo. and 3T), hopefully matching.
  4. MK wants to know: does anyone has any good pictures and/or directions for affixing ceremony programs to palm fans or sandalwood fans?
  5. Michelle’s fiance popped the question over fondue, so she’d like to have a fondue pot/set as a centerpiece at her engagement party. Does anyone have any (preferrably inexpensive) DIY ideas for something like this?
  6. Jessica needs advice on the proper tipping of caterers. What’s standard protocol?

I also got our seals from oldschoolseals.com. We went with the plastic ones. They look exactly like wax but come pre made. We had read that wax ones were hard to manage and that they break in the mail. The site is super fast and the prices are great.

We used this site and used the glue gun wax. Make sure to let the gun heat up for five minutes and make sure to dip the stamp into ice cold water to cool it down in between each stamp, but they came out great. We did them on the outside of the envelope of the save the dates and they were all fine in the mail. It took about 2 hours to do 115 of them. Good luck.

They have a lot of matching dresses from baby sizes to size 14 in pre-teens, reasonably priced and very cute too!

I was planning on using filigree monograms for a monogrammed runner/tablecloth for our cake table, however, their site has been done for a week or so. Does anyone know where else I can find something similar?

I have a question…

Do I make a program for every person that is attending the wedding?
Or can I exclude kids or scale back because x% usually doesn’t take one?

M - couples and families typically share. Probably safe to make 50% of your total adult headcount. We had a lot leftover.

Kara-

I would definitely recommend my hairstylist- Danny at Trendsetters in Blue Point. It may not be as close to you as you would like (~15-25 min) but he does a great job.

Sept bride–my flowergirl’s and youngest bridesmaid’s dresses came from Pegeen.com. The dresses haven’t arrived yet (any day now) but the customer service so far has been exceptional. My flower girl’s mom had a bit of a meltdown and Marj from Pegeen handled it so well, and so professionally. They’re not cheap, but you can get practically any color imaginable and the quality is supposed to be outstanding. I’ll find out very soon!

I really liked the fondue idea as a centerpiece instead of flowers…
since my colors are chocolate brown and light blue, but I forgot about the fact that wires will criss cross everywhere..

so instead, I’ll have to settle for a chocolate fountain on the dessert table.

as for dresses - I got my flower girl dress through http://www.netbride.com

There was a post a while back about reception music–one of the bees had posted their reception play list with a lot of fun hip hop songs. I tried to scroll back, but couldn’t find it. Could you post the link to it again?

my bridesmaid dress don’t include a wrap/shawl… where could i get one for my girls? the dress is a bill levkoff sable brown dress (style #214)… and would it be too much for the shawl to be brown too? my wedding colors are red and brown.

I went to get my marriage license today and a bump has come up. When I became a US citizen about 8 years ago, I changed my first name to a more “americanized” name. So I told the town clerk’s office about this and they require proof of the name change to attach to my marriage license. But when I go back to find my naturalization papers, it only has my “new” name on there, not mentioning my old name at all. Does anyone know how this should work since the clerk’s office has never dealt with anything like this before and I’m so scared that this will drag out and I can’t get my marriage license before my wedding in a month.

Michelle -

I don’t know if you were set on having the party at home or not, but check out The Melting Pot. It’s a restaurant that focuses mostly on fondue.

http://www.themeltingpot.com

We went there for my graduation party in December and it was so much fun!

Otherwise, unless you are actually doing fondue at your party, you could either buy and return the sets, or look into mini sets as well - I got one at TJ Maxx for $5 and while it’s not as big as the cheese pot, it was perfect for dessert for two :)
