Beehive

May 11th, 2007 @ 4:20 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  1. nGbb2b was planning on using filigree monograms for a monogrammed runner/tablecloth for her cake table, but the site she was ordering from has been down for a week. Can anyone recommend any websites that sell these?
  2. M wants to know if she needs to make a program for every person attending her wedding, or if she can exclude children?
  3. lucy is looking for a wrap or shawl for her bridesmaids to match their dresses (which are Bill Levkoff sable brown, style #214). Her wedding colors are red and brown, so would brown shawls be too much brown? Suggestions welcome.

Lucy- I was a bridesmaid in a friends wedding in February, our dresses were dark brown and we also had dark brown shalls. I think it looked great. Definately not too much brown.

Lucy–also, a neutral like brown is more likely to be used again in the future.

M - We’re inviting 400 people and are only making 200 programs. I figure most dudes don’t care and we’ll have an attendant passing out to each couple or family, because children don’t need them, either.

You also figure that some people skip the ceremony, blah blah blah…basically I wouldn’t dream of making one for every person. Maybe 75% or for everyone but kids like you say.

m - i’m with wsukarebear. just make one for each couple or group. most people will share their program anyway even if you made one for everyone in attendance.

We made a program for every 2 people and still had some left over.

I just got my e-ring from a local Jeweler in the Los Angeles Jewelry district and was wondering if I should get it insured. Do most people get insurance on their e-ring?

what is the protocol/etiquette for a bustle on your wedding gown? I like my gown much better when done up with the french bustle.

Is this a ceremony faux pas? Are you supposed to wear the dress down for the ceremony and up for the reception?

Yes P.

I got my e-ring insured through the company that has my renter’s insurance policy. Mine was about $1.81 for the year per $100 in value. The peace of mind that every single diamond in my ring is protected for so little is well, priceless.

I’m having a bit of a dilema looking for flowers (that are not white) to use for my bridal bouquets! My colors are brown & turquoise and I almost regret choosing such difficult colors because I cannot find any wedding bouquets with those colors! (turquoise flowers???) Please help if you have any pictures!

Question for the beehive–I tried to make the moss letters that Miss Lemon blogged about a while ago. But the first one looked terrible, and I think I might be allergic to the moss, my hands are really irritated. So, now I have two 20″ Benguiat initials in pink foam–didn’t cut them out myself, I had a professional signmaker from eBay make them. I don’t want them to go to waste. What should I do? Try the moss again with gloves on? Cover them with fabric? They’re big so it would take a LOT of silk flowers to cover them. Help! Only three weeks until the wedding, and I don’t want these to go to waste.

P - Jewelry rider is on top of homeowners or renter’s insurance. We had our wedding jewelry insured before the honeymoon so we could wear it everywhere on the trip without worry. Great peace of mind.

Pencils - TOSS THE MOSS, and let your hands heal, poor thing! What about covering them with batting and then fabric, so they are a little soft around the edges (also more forgiving so you don’t have to get the fabric perfectly smooth), then you probably staple or hot-glue on the back? Other ideas — wrapping paper leftover from opening shower and wedding gifts, wide ribbon? Depends what look you are going for, but could also cover them in glue (spray adhesive?) and dip them in something that goes with your theme (beads, sand, pebbles, buttons, Fruit Loops, bird seed, rice, broken shells, etc.) to cover the styrofoam. (Kind of liking rice or birdseed; can’t throw either at most venues nowdays.)

Not a question but a “Hey guys look at this!”
Eye/Do cufflinks from UncommonGoods.com (http://tinyurl.com/2buddn) $65 but pretty unique. Just wanted to share! I scanned the blog posts but didn’t spot ‘em, sorry if they’re a repeat!

Hi - where can I get very basic, step-by-step instructions on invitations (including where to get the graphics for the invitations) and place cards (including where to find the little nprinted place cards)…I’m basically a DIY dunce but with a DIY-itch to do something creative. :)

New Question: I am about to have my first meeting with a reception vendor (ever!). I’m not sure what to expect or what is expected of me. Do you have any good suggestions on what questions I should definitely ask and what to look out for?

Yes P

I got mine insured and I also got an independent appraisal. I went through Jewelers Mutual. I don’t know if it’s necessary but it makes me feel better.

Do not do the spray tan… it’s not worth it… my sister-in-law works in a tanning salon and she doesn’t recommend it. Sometimes it works, but its the creases (the upperside of your elbows and behind your knees) that will turn orange… I’d say, do it at your own risk

Miss Melodious– have you thought about green flowers to go with the brown and turquoise? Orchids, green hydrangea?

Miss melodious - how about a pale yellow flower

I suggest, instead of self-tanner, using Jergen’s Natural Glow lotion or Dove’s version of the same thing. It’s a lotion with self tanner like qualities. It doesn’t rub off on clothes and it gives you a MUCH more natural, progressive tan.
