DIY Invitations

May 11th, 2007 @ 11:33 am by Mrs. Bell Pepper

I had been debating for several months whether or not we should DIY our invitations. I looked through several websites and I absolutely loved invites from Kate Spade, the White Aisle, Grapevine, and My Gatsby. The designs are so beautiful but the costs were unbelievable. I couldn’t imagine spending over $1000 for invites - I would rather save the money for our honeymoon or for something else special for our wedding. After much research online, I finally decided to DIY our invitations using these sources for our material: Paper and More, Envelopments, and Michaels for adhesive and paper cutting supplies.

The total cost for all the materials was approximately $300 for about 125 invitations. Very reasonable but the amount of time to DIY was about 2-3 days worth of my time. Patience is definitely required - there were times where I ripped up several botched up invitations, but I remained pretty calm and the hard work really paid off! :) Next project: DIY placecards, table numbers, menu cards, and programs.

I love them!!! Could you give some more details? Like what you bought from where, and a brief cost breakdown, etc. Your issue with deciding on DIY or not, the type of invitations, all of it, is pretty much my situation exactly!

I’m in absolute awe of your talents– those are amazing. I wish I could DIY, but I’m hopeless and clumsy. You would have paid a fortune to have those done professionally– you should go into business :)

did you use a rubber stamp for the design on the invite?

Is it just me, or do the invites look like 5×7’s and then in the very last picture, look like 5×5’s? It’s bugging me! I know the last picture is at an angle, but I can’t get over how they look so much shorter than they do in all the rest of the pictures!

I found the images online and then I used Adobe Illustrator to design the invites.

Very professional. How are you mailing them and what is the postage rate?

Miss Bell Pepper says:

Andria, looks like the last photo is kind of distorted. It is supposed to be 5×7

Great invites but could I get more info on the paper cutter? That looks better than my Purple Cow one.

Miss Bell Pepper says:

I bought the paper cutter from Office Depot. I think you can find one at any office supplies store in your area.

I’m astonished that you only spent $300, and I’m so curious as to how you did it! Where did you purchase the pocketfolds, backing layer, and invitation layer? And where did you find a design like that online? I’ve seen similar rubber stamps but nothing quite like that, I’m wondering what type of website has those kind of designs.

BEAUTIFUL! I LOVE your invitations! I’m thinking about DIY pocketfolds too, but not sure how to design or print them. Did you print the invitations yourself? If yes, what kind of printer did you use?

I loved your invitations. I did similar using envelopments and papersource. I’m working on the direction cards. I’m lost as to what to put on there. Do you have close up picture of it, it would be a great guide for me!
