Mrs. Plum's Picture
Mrs. Plum, Dallas Age and Occupation in 06: 22, Accountant by day/Floral and Event Designer by night and weekends Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Security Admin Engagement Date: December 31, 2004 Wedding Date: June 29, 2007 Venue: Marie Gabrielle Restaurant and Gardens About Me: I have been engaged for about two years now - yes, a long engagement, because my fiance and I wanted to wait until I graduated college, which I did this past summer! He proposed after dating just two months - crazy, I know, but 2 years later, here we are, still crazy in love :-). We are having not one, but TWO weddings and TWO receptions in one weekend - American-style and Vietnamese-style - in Dallas, Texas, where I was born and raised!
About Mrs. Plum

Your previously passive, go-with-the-flow, laid-back FIL decides to go on an “invite-spree”. Of course it would happen. With less than 6 weeks to go until the wedding - AND the invites have already been mailed.

What’s an “invite-spree” you say?

Well, it’s when someone who isn’t the bride or groom (aka someone unauthorized) invites a bunch of people that the bride and groom don’t know to their own wedding - yep - when the bride and groom are picking up the tab.

He’s trying to invite people with titles like “his boss’s wife’s brother-in-law twice-removed.” Seriously??! Seriously?!?! SERIOUSLY?!?! angry.gif

My FI is very against this and already told him no - but he’s still pushing it.

I already had to tell my mother that my relatives (as in second-cousins and aunts twice-removed, etc.) couldn’t come to our nicer reception (I know I am horrible - I’m having a “nicer” reception vs. the “other” one that my parents pushed me to have) because we didn’t have any more room (and b/c they’re already coming to the second ceremony and reception!)

What happened to my sweet, passive, laid-back FIL?!?

unfortunately in my situation, its my OWN father! Our RSVP deadline is in a few days and 2 minutes ago he asked me to make more invitations and have the ready “just in case.” ?!??!?!!!!

His motivation is probably positive (happy, proud, bragging about the two of you), but sounds like he will either have to eat his words and uninvite them, or pick up the tab for equivalent extra invites on not just his side but also the other side (so distant friends/relatives/colleagues aren’t there from one side but not the other) — assuming your venue even has the space for that. THIS SUCKS!

the same thing happened to me. i am just hoping half of them doesnt rsvp yes they are coming. i am pushing the maximum of seats at the banquet. i could not do a thing about the extra invites. i am not even sure if my family would have told me if i didnt even ask in the first place why need the extra invitations.
