Semi-Homemade Unity Candles

May 14th, 2007 @ 1:57 pm by Mrs. Plum

When I was in Asia over winter break, I picked up several of these cute little beaded flower decorations for wedding purposes in various colors. I am also testing them out to see if they’d be a good inventory item for my business. They also make great corsage alternatives!

Materials:
-3 x 9 pillar candle or any desired size
-1 beaded flower decoration
-2 corsage pins

Directions:
1. Peel wrapper off center pillar candle (the one you and your fiance will light together).
2. Wrap beaded flower decoration with ribbon around the candle
3. Secure in place with 2 corsage pins - push them in all the way so only the rounded heads are seen on the backside of the candle.
4. The End!

Here’s a picture of the same item in action as a corsage:

Let me know what you think! Should I continue to carry this item in my inventory? Would you buy this/use this? Feedback please!

They are unique. I can’t say I have ever seen anyone with this at their weddings. I wouldn’t use them personally only because the white on white seems a little too plain for me. And if they are going to be up on an alter they would be hard for guests to see anyways. But I see where they could easily match the bodice of someones dress so that would be neat.

Honestly, they seem a little busy to me. Although I could see taking them apart and doing things with the different pieces.

I personally like them a lot but I can’t imagine my mom or my grandma liking them (and they would be the ones to wear them). They’re definitely more traditional so having anything but a standard real bloom would stir some lifted eyebrows.

For other ideas they can also be used as a hairpiece instead of a fresh flower or to secure a sash on a wedding gown or bridesmaid’s dress.

I like them for the unity candle, but not as a corsage. Too big in my opinion (I once had a huge corsage that I wound up just taking off in the middle of prom because it was huge and distracting…)

Next up: how to make a memorial candle? [Can you tell what I've been shopping for lately :)]

They look a little cheesy to me so perhaps if you accent it with something else, they will look better.

not as a corsage…not enough color to bring out the details in the beading. too big as a one piece for the candles….

I love the idea, but, not this design, and not in white…. maybe if I could get it in my wedding colors…

I think it looks adorable on the candle but I don’t think I’d ever use the corsage.

The concept is good but this particular beaded cluster is not the most attractive. Maybe something with more variation, more airy, more contemporary?

A smaller daintier/finer version might actually sell as a corsage if they are marketed for people who are allergic to flowers? A corsage-bracelet of sorts?

It looks pretty old school to me and I definitely don’t care for it as a corsage. On the candle, not bad…but I love beaded gaudiness. Maybe that should be a hint. ;-)

I think it looks nice on the candle but not on a wrist.
