Bachelorette Party Update

May 15th, 2007 @ 3:52 pm by Mrs. Pumpkin

Just a small update on my previous, somewhat controversial post on my surprise bachelorette party. First off, I just wanted to say that my last post on this subject obviously wasn’t written very well, because the fact that I was ABSOLUTELY honoured and very grateful that my MOH wanted to plan this party for me was somehow lost. I was always very happy that this party was being planned in my honour, all the post was supposed to convey was that it just threw me for a bit of a loop. I just wasn’t expecting it. So, I am sorry if I disappointed anyone with what appeared to be a flippant attitude about the party. That was not my intention at all.

Whew! Now that that’s cleared up, we can move on to the fun details! I still don’t know very much about the party, but as most of you predicted, if I was patient, my MOH would slowly slip the details out to me (because she absolutely knows that I am not a fan of surprises!) and I would start to get more and more excited about the party. So this is what I know for sure:

1. It is a joint party with Mr. Pumpkin! I am not sure if it is quite in the Buck & Doe tradition that I talked about in the comments of my post on Groom’s Showers, but I do know that this is both Mr. Pumpkin’s Stag and my Stagette rolled into one.

2. Our parents are invited! This is so funny to me but I absolutely love it!

3. I think that there may be some sort of Newlywed Game played at this party. My MOH keeps asking me random things like which of Mr. Pumpkin’s crops I think is the sexiest and which one of us is the biggest Pearl Jam fan.

For the record, I said that durham wheat was the sexiest crop because it reminded me of Bull Durham and that is a sexy movie in my opinion. Lentils remind me too much of that Barbara Streisand movie Yentl where she plays a girl who dresses up as a boy for some reason (did I get that right?) and sings that “Papa, can you hear me?” song and that flax (even though it actually rhymes with Mr. Pumpkin’s last name) reminds me of bread that my Dad eats because it is rich in fibre - soooo not sexy.

And, of course, I am the biggest Pearl Jam fan because I listened to them from the beginning of Ten. Mr. Pumpkin only started listening at Vs. and, because they only had three TV channels at the farm, he had never seen a Pearl Jam video until he met me - a fact that I am sure he will say is circumstantial and should not be held against him but to that I say that if he were as big a fan as I was then he would have found a way…

Now I am super excited for the party! My MOH says that the rest will probably remain a secret (although she is powerless against my investigatory journalism skills) but that she will tell me what to wear, so now I am totally comfortable with whatever comes my way. Mr. Pumpkin and I are also both so happy that it is a joint party. We are just not go-out-and-get-smashed kinds of people anymore and so having it together takes away a bit of that “let’s buy Mr. Pumpkin 30 shots of Jager and see if he can still walk” kind of thinking. I think that we will both have a blast!

Is anyone else having a joint bachelor/bachelorette party? Are your parents invited to your parties, either separate or joint?

We’re having a joint party too…the traditional festivities would be so out of character for either of us.

Our friends are throwing us a wedding themed murder mystery party. We usually host a party at least once a year, but have been too busy with wedding planning so it’s absolutely perfect…especially since we threw a murder mystery party together shortly after we met as an excuse to get to know each other :)

Now I just have to figure out how to dress up as a bride a month before the wedding!

We have recently started handing out invites for our “Handy Combination Bridal Shower/Couple Shower Bachelor/Bachelorette and General Pre-Wedding Party and Semi-Compulsory Dance Lesson Which Happens to Be on Sarah’s Birthday” party. Yes, that’s what it says on the invitation. We’re having a small wedding 500 miles from where we live and work, so a lot of the people we currently hang out with we just weren’t able to invite. This is giving us the chance to include a ton more people, force them to take a lesson from our dance teacher, and most importantly, let me get away with not having a “normal” bridal shower.

We’re having a joint Jack & Jill, Buck & Doe, Sonny & Cher etc. with our best friends (our entire wedding party) in Vegas. Neither of us could imagine it any other way. We’ll probably split up for some respective spa time / golf time for the essential same sex bonding, though.

BTW, when I first skimmed through this post and came across “which crop is the sexiest” my whole opinion of Miss Pumpkin was temporarily turned upside down. ;)

I’m so jealous!! I really wanted a Joint shower as well, mainly cuz I have alot of guy friends as well, and it would have made sense. However, my MOH had different ideas, thinking along the lines of something more girly… so be it! I didn’t want to step on any toes or dash any ideas, since I am happy to be getting a party at all. But I think it sounds SO fun!

i like the idea of a joint bach party. i’m gona try and convince my fi about that one. we’ll see.

and by the way, we met at a pearl jam concert! we fight over who is the bigger fan ALL of the time also. He knows more about the random little details about the band… but I’ve seen them in concert about 20+ more times than he has. I think I win. =)

My husband-apparent (he likes that title more than fiance) and I are having a joint Jack and Jill bachelor/ette party. Most of my friends are guys and we like to do typical guy things, so it’s probably going to seem like more of a bachelor party, but that’s what I want. So, it will probably be some combination of cigars, scotch, poker, strip club, and inevitable, light-hearted embarrassment at the hands of our friends.

No, we won’t be inviting our parents.
