About Mrs. Emerald

They also provided me my wedding dinner music!

Errr, are you confused yet? Well, here’s some background. Since Mr. E and I got engaged in Paris under the Eiffel Tower (it was ridiculously romantic, I tell you! winky01), we’ve been trying to include a few Parisian touches to the wedding. So far, all I have come up with is naming the tables after Paris landmarks that we visited using pictures that we took, and also Eiffel Tower chocolate favors. A while back I also thought it would be really cool to play French music during the dinner hour, but the only thing that came to mind was a strolling accordian player… not so much! Other than that, I didn’t really know what French music consisted of.

Then this morning as I stood in line at Starbucks for my morning caffeine fix, this CD caught my eye!! Rendezvous a Paris!

The packaging is super cute, and I love anything that has an Eiffel Tower on it. I ripped it open and popped it in my CD player the minute I got home. BINGO! The CD is perfection; it’s a compilation of sexy, sultry lounge-y songs as well as eclectic, jazzy, coffeehouse type songs… in French, of course! At least 7 or 8 tracks would be perfect to play during my dinner hour. (There is also one straight up accordian track, hehe.) Then by doing an Amazon search on some of the included artists, I can come up with a number of other songs that would fit into the mix. Voila, an hour’s worth of dinner music with one lucky trip to Starbucks. laughin02

I love it when you find inspiration in the most unusual places! What have you found in an odd place?

Ah so cute! I too got engaged under that wonderful tower in September 06 and I have made a diligent effort to include it into our wedding without becoming overly tacky. So far so good!

We found our centerpieces at Garden Ridge! At 90% off no less…

We’d been engaged for all of two weeks and went in just to look around (FH worked there in high school and I hadn’t been there in years) and we spotted this huge after-Christmas clearance area. I found a bunch of plastic wreaths that you can change out the flowers, so we got as many as we could in purple and white since everything else was red and green, obviously. Still not sure where the purple fits in with Christmas, but I’m not complaining for $1 apiece!

FH was so sweet, and drove me around to FIVE Garden Ridges in the area to get enough purple and white flowers to make 15 total wreaths (we were totally guesstimating since we had made NO wedding plans yet - I just knew the deal was too good to pass up and vowed to find SOME way to use them even if it wasn’t for our wedding…)

Perfect! I’ll have to check that CD out — it seems right up my alley. Another good one is the soundtrack from French Kiss.

Another “Frenchie” idea is to have a croquembouche instead of a wedding cake or a groom’s cake. If you want to go for a traditional cake, how about serving a cream puff on the side or a few macaroons as favors? http://tinyurl.com/38hgvh

so pretty. i’m doing a spanish theme wedding. music: flamenco, mariachis (not spanish, but fun!) and salsa, bossanova (not spanish, but fun to dance to).

oh btw, why not include film posters or such from famous film makers such as Truffaut. the key art is so beautiful. i’m not a film buff, but i like the art.

If you want some more French music, you should check out Carla Bruni. She’s Italian, but she sings in French and I have to admit, I don’t really like the way French sounds spoken, but her singing is really beautiful.

Check out Edith Piaf, Django Reinhardt, and as silly as it might sound, those Lifescape CD’s. I have a Paris Sounds one that I’ve had for years, and I love it.

You should also try the “Something’s Gotta Give” soundtrack. I love it. There is a version of Louis Armstrong singing La Vie En Rose that I love. That sounds like a great theme!
