Our Color Inspiration

May 18th, 2007 @ 9:27 am by Mrs. Bell Pepper

Our color scheme has changed so many times since I started planning for the wedding. First I thought we should just do something simple idea such as adding red roses throughout the reception. When I thought about the bridemaids though, we changed the color scheme to burgundy, dark purple, and gold. But my florist said the combination was too dark for summer so we changed our wedding colors to a lighter color palette.

I noticed a lot of weddings lately have been using the lavender and dark brown. It’s a pretty combination but I really don’t like the color brown. So what else goes well with lavender? I searched for ideas and finally found great inspiration from Laduree’s website.

French Macaroons!

Great packaging ideas for your wedding too!

We decided to use lavender, mint green, gold and ivory for our wedding colors, thanks to Laduree!

What’s your color scheme and did you have any inspirations?

Eggplant purple and butter yellow. Came up with it because the first flowers my fiance sent me were irises (or was it the African violets? I was setting off to work in Africa and he sent those around that time, too - but the colors still work!)

I picked up a Martha Stewart paint chip 3-4 years ago, when I was thinking of redoing the bedroom. It’s a couple shades of pale sage–like the green Weddingbee background but a little more gray–with a deep red. Two of my three bridesmaids would look nauseous in pale green, so they’re wearing a deep red. The wedding’s on Cape Cod, so the pale green will be hydrangeas, and we’re throwing white and silver accents here and there.

And the bedroom? Still the previous owner’s country blue.

Woman007 — Eggplant purple and a buttery yellow sounds so pretty. I love irises, do you plan to use them in your wedding flowers? I think your fiance would love the idea!

Our wedding is at the end of october and we wanted to stray away from the fall theme, halloween and also didn’t want a winter theme. We chose the colors: red, white, black and silver. We wanted things simple and elegant.

Green and white/ivory. I used this floral arrangement as my inspiration:. http://www.adorenyc.com/cartgenie/prodInfo.asp?pid=5&cid=1

I love lavender and green as well. Reminds me of the lavender fields in Provence. Nice choice! The green and ivory will make your color scheme more formal.

Just wanted to say that I LOVE Ladurĩe macaroons. I bought a lot on my last trip to France and savored every last bit when I returned to the States.

Macaroons are so decadent and delicious. They sell them at Miel Patisserie in Philly but it’s still not as good as the real thing in Paris! :)

Our color scheme is rose red, varying shades of dark pink, tangerine, and gold. We’re having an Indian wedding, so we wanted our colors to be very vibrant.

Our color scheme is the typical fall colors: brown, dark orange, reds, and ivory. Originally it was just going to be the orange, red, and ivory but when I saw another bride’s bm’s using brown dresses and holding vibrant orange bouquets I fell in love with that hence the addition of the color brown.

Suzy, what a coincidence! I checked out the shop while I was looking for our cake topper a few months back. The website has a lot of great ideas!

Martha Stewart’s Wedding Editor (Darcy Miller) used the Laudree (lavender) box as her inspiration for her cake! The whole thing is on one of the MS Wedding DVDs. Is it a bad thing that I remember other people’s cake inspiration?

I love Laduree! I can’t believe you’re bloggin about it because I just discovered it for the first time a couple weeks ago and am nuts for the macaroons. I just got back from Paris and bought my mom a box of macaroons for mothers day. They are my new favorite sweet treat. Does anyone know where to get similar macaroons in the states, specifically Los Angeles. I would love to have these at our wedding. I love the french bull dog too!

Navy, pale yellow, and ivory. Blue is my favorite color, and I chose navy for practical reasons–I have three different attendant dresses, and I wanted them to match as well as different manufacturers and fabrics can. The pale yellow came from wanting a lighter second color for flowers, and yellow seemed more sophisticated than pink, my second choice, and it became “pale” yellow when I fell in love with a buttercream silk for the flowergirl’s dress and the youngest bridesmaid’s sash. And ivory is for my wedding gown, also because it’s good to have another accent color, and easy to incorporate “ivory” in paper goods.

BTW, I love Laduree, and I really really wanted the topper from their wedding cake, but I couldn’t figure out how to get one without buying a cake. None have turned up on eBay, and even a friend in Paris couldn’t get one for me. :(

my proposed colors are sage green, ivory and a deep, bright blue. this after being content with red, silver and white. funny thing was, the bf gave me the idea since i mentioned the red thing in passing and he said he was surprised i didn’t go with green since it’s my favorite color. duh! i added the blue later to add a bit of splash and fun.

If you ever go, make sure to try the Orange Blossom. It is soooo good.

I love garnet red - I think it’s beautiful! I paired it with black and white for a classic vintage feeling due to my ceremony and reception location being a Castle on the side of a mountain. My invitations had a toile print (black and white) with a red border and it looked beautiful and classic. My BM’s dresses are garnet red and my future hubby is wearing a garnet red tie. The rest of the guys are wearing black ties. I love these colors! Years from now it will still be classic and beautiful!

Hey, Katy,

They make fantastic macaroons at Bouchon Bakery in Napa and New York City (is there one in la?) I know they make them at miette bakery in SF, but I think those are a little on the sweet side…

:)

Miss (Dr.?) Bell Pepper - My bouquet consists of roses, but am inspired by the great idea of incorporating irises somewhere (MOH flowers not decided yet but), perhaps in an unexpected, maybe quiet way. He’ll know what it means. Thanks!

Pink and orange, with a bit of green thown in: I have white furniture with pink and orange accent pillows and long pink sheers hanging on the windows in my living room. My fiance suggested the color combo based on my decor!

I love lavendar combined with tangerine. Think Panera Bread in Summer!
I also like lavendar combined with light blue and a dash of sage green. If you want a second opinion on flower options I don’t mind to make suggestions.
