Gabby’s Something New

May 22nd, 2007 @ 1:31 pm by Mrs. Pumpkin

How new does your “something new” have to be? I was counting on my dress being my “something new” but after watching Desperate Housewives this weekend, I am starting to think that may not be good enough.

Gabby's Something New : wedding canada traditions Eva Lon

In this Sunday’s episode Gabby was frantic moments before her wedding because Bree had not yet arrived with a bracelet that was to fulfill Gabby’s “something new”. Now, I know that this is Desperate Housewives and that there is often drama where there needn’t be any on that show, but now I am really wondering… how new is your “something new”?

Lol oh my heavens. I think a brand spanking new, made-to-order wedding dress is new enough :) In fact I remember thinking that very thing as I watched Gabby on Sunday night frantically awaiting her “something new” bracelet, and thinking to myself, what does it matter if it doesn’t arrive in time? Isn’t her dress new anyway?

New to me (albeit used to the prior owner) is close enough for my standards, ha! “Previously owned” sounds nice.

I am considering my gown my something new but my earrings and hair brooch would count too.

The only thing I’m wearing that’s *not* new is my something old and something borrowed! =)

I had always thought that the something old should be something that you already had. So, for example, if you wore shoes you already had, then that would suffice. Then I read something that said your something old should be really old, e.g. something handed down by your mother or grandmother.

So if your something old has to be older than something you’d previously purchased and your something new has to be something specifically purchased for the wedding–then what is something you’re using that you just happened to have on hand?!

Please wear new underwear and hose (if you are wearing hose, that is).

I was always told that something “new” should be something you have never worn/tried on before… in which case, a wedding dress would not count, presuming you have worn it for fittings. I’m not a superstitious person and probably won’t go for the old/new/borrowed/blue at all, but if I was doing something “new”, I would probably go buy cute new underwear for the big day and just not try them on…
