I said I’d be busy today, and I wasn’t lying!
As soon as I left earlier, my aunt arrived. She finished the table runners for me, then cleaned up the kitchen.
I then baked a ’sample’ version of the groom’s cake, to make sure that the fudge recipe tasted OK and that the springform pan idea worked. It was also my first time using one of those cake decorating icing bags, and while I was just *trying* to drizzle thin lines of icing on top, it really came out looking a bit, well…see for yourself:

The error was, I forgot to close the top of the icing bag, so it just started glopping out the sides.
But, I’m chalking it up as a learning experience for what NOT to do when I do the real deal (with Bill McNeal). I’m also going to try Pam-ing the springform pan, because you might be able to see that there were some stickiness issues. All in all, I would consider it pretty successful–believe it or not! But you’ll just have to hold on and wait until you can see what the *real* solid fudge groom’s cake looks like! ![]()
After that adventure, Mr. Blueberry and I ran down to the Plaza for TWO quick stops (no Starbucks allowed, no Victoria’s Secret, nothing but our two missions
).

Oh, how I love Paper Source! I’d actually never been in the store before, but I was really impressed. I was in and out in about five minutes flat, with my 4Bars in hand.
Stop 2:
Three Dog Bakery. If you haven’t heard of this place before, you don’t know what you’re missing out on. Gourmet dog treats abound! Whenever I’m in the area I like to stop by and pick up a few num-nums for Maxie. Today we went in to put together a small treat box for her so she’ll have her own food at the wedding, and I also picked up matching boxes for Molly and Eliza. It must’ve been the owner or manager helping us, because she *really* hooked us up. We chatted about dogs in weddings, and weddings in general, and then as she was closing up the boxes she tossed in one of these for each girl:

“Consider it their wedding gift, from us here at Three Dog Bakery,” she said. What a wonderful surprise!
Here’s what the treat boxes look like:

Now, if you’ve got a keen eye you might notice what appears to be baking cooling racks in the background of those last pictures. And you’ve noticed right! In addition to the mock-up of the groom’s cake, I’ve also made three batches of snickerdoodles:

Oh, and two batches of brownie bites (these ones pictured are just the first half of the first batch–1/4th of the total amount):

But my baking isn’t done yet! I still have 3 batches of rice krispie treats (for the chocolate fountains), two batches of butterscotch brownies, and two batches of lemon bars–plus the REAL (much improved) version of the groom’s cake!
I’ll leave you with an image of my and Mom’s massive food- and alcohol-buying experience from Sunday:

I, personally, loaded every single case of everything, into that minivan. My arms got TIRED!
And since that time, I’ve burned my right arm and my left knuckle. At this rate, I’ll be in *wonderful* shape for the wedding! lol.
Oh, and to all you naysayers who think I shouldn’t be blogging, that I have better things to do–I’ll have you know that as I typed this entry, I finished the last of the brownies. Now I’m off to start the butterscotch bars!
