About Mrs. Daisy

Almost Famous

May 24th, 2007 @ 8:30 am by Mrs. Daisy

Well, in certain circles, anyway. That’s because my stellar makeup artist Laura Nadeau has put photos of me on her revamped web site! how cool is that?!? I’m the third photo in her “bridal” section:

Almost Famous : wedding makeup new york post wedding Wedding012 Wedding_pro_pics_077

(Mrs. Firefly is the second one!!). Plus, a picture of Mr. Daisy and I exchanging vows holds strong at the fourteenth slot too. So far we haven’t hit any other vendor pages (to our knowledge though we’re definitely submitting this info to the White Castle site, because really there would be no loftier achievement for Mr. Daisy than ending up on that URL). As for me, I’m just excited that Laura is happy enough with how my makeup turned out to include me on her brand new web site. (although she left out the “before” pictures, somehow I am ok with that!)

a work in progress…

The photo-inclusion angle notwithstanding, Laura is one of my favorite vendors ever–I still keep in touch with her because *that’s* how much I love her. She did an incredible job with my makeup and my mom’s and my sister’s and my bridesmaids’ (we’ve never looked better!) and she’s just a fantastic person. Now, in a collision of my worlds, my other favorite, the Wedding Library–where Jennifer planned my wedding–has just made Laura one of their preferred vendors. Clearly based on how lovely I looked after her wedding day handiwork. (I mean why else?) Seriously though, every bride needs a Laura.

Of course, all this has me wondering. Now I, obviously, am thrilled with Laura and the idea of having my face (if not my name) in lights on her web site. But I know some people like to keep wedding stuff close to the vest. So…

What do you think about vendor fame–have you, or your cake or flowers been featured on a vendor site? And would you be happy to end up immortalized on a web site or would you be shy?

And, toward the other point here, did you have any vendor that went above-and-beyond for you whom you just adore and miss/will miss after the wedding is over?

Haha, I just met with my baker and she told me I had such a sweet face she wanted to replace a picture on her website with one of me and my FI - the wedding isn’t for 6 weeks!

I’m not sure how I feel about it, but I guess as long as our names aren’t up there, who cares right?

How cool! You look fantastic!
Do you mind me asking where/what brand/what kind of veil that is that you are wearing and what the edging is? It looks so great!

That is so exciting!

I personally would love if one of my vendors used something from my wedding on their website. I think it’s flattering and exciting!

To answer the last question - the vendor that I will miss working with is my photographers. Our engagement session with them was SO fun. However, I will get to see them a few times after the wedding - they are doing my trash the dress session a month after the wedding, and then a month after THAT they are doing a session for my family for my parents 25th anniversary gift!

Read the contract carefully and see what it says about posting photos/names. If you don’t like what it says, or it’s silent and you don’t want to leave it to chance, write it in. You can require “notice” before photos are posted, or even “veto” power over which photos are posted. The most important vendor to worry about is the photographer, because it’s his/her gorgeous photos that will be the most tempting for him/her and other vendors to want to post. Even if you go with first names only, it’s not so anonymous if you have an exceptionally unusual first name that comes up in Google immediately.

P.S. This can also be really important to guests who appear in the photos, e.g., because they had to call in sick from work to attend your wedding, because the crazy ex isn’t supposed to know where someone lives anymore and would become unhinged by seeing a photo of him/her dancing with a new partner, because someone hasn’t “come out” to his/her parents yet and is with his/her partner at the wedding, etc. Stuff happens. Just be aware if there are any guests who might be sensitive about having their photos posted for all of cyberspace to peruse.

Our wedding planner put my love letter to her and a photo on her website. Our photog said he was going to use pictures from our wedding in his printed ads too. I feel it’s the ultimate compliment!

We’re on our florist’s website and I was thrilled. (Ha! Could I be more vain?) As soon as I saw it, I emailed my husband - “We’re famous!!!”

coton, thanks! my veil is by Bridal Veil Falls (in NYC, E Village) and Margaret did the whole thing. http://www.bridalveilfallsnyc.com/

it’s a “continuous” veil with a blusher. i chose that so that it didn’t have too much height around the comb. it basically means that it’s one single piece of fabric layered onto itself rather than having a separate piece for the blusher.

and the edging is just the veil itself–i feel like it was called a “soutash” edge. no ribbon at all and a little bit of embroidery at the very end of the train. (yes, i did a *long* veil, but with a shorter blusher).

Another privacy concern re photographer — Consider whether you’re comfortable if a photo of your wedding invitation is posted, because it contains a lot of information.

Iris, i definitely get what you’re saying. i changed my video and photog contracts to require my express permission to post photos *anywhere* (even to use in their “books” that they show potential clients at appointments). yeah, the lawyer in me comes out anytime i’m in the same room as a contract. b ut it’s a good point for everyone to bear in mind.

i saw way too many brides-in-panties pictures when i was looking to book vendors and just didn’t want that fate for myself.

Hi, Mrs. Daisy. We lawyers have a way of finding each other.

Agreed! Just say no to brides in panties. Or brides without bras. See photo #8:

Artistically gorgeous, but the rest of the family don’t wanna see that online.

(Ha! Fellow ESQ here.)

The make-up artist for a friend’s wedding put up pics of all of us bride and bridesmaids) on her website. My first thought was “Oh, no. Pictures? On a website where people will see me?” Then I saw the pics. I hired both the make-up artist and the photographer for my wedding!! [www.Naomimartinez.com and http://www.studio1923.com- shameless plug for them, but I love them!]
