Escort Cards Version 2.0

May 24th, 2007 @ 9:33 am by Mrs. Bell Pepper

I talked to my caterer and the museum event coordinator yesterday about the ceremony/reception details. I presented the circular menu cards and everyone seemed to like the idea, it’s simple to arrange and it looks very elegant in the white bone china they will be using for the reception. When it came to talking about our escort cards, I gave the caterer several ideas, one that I posted previously and a more three demensional idea. They seemed to love the three demensional paper flowers and I thought to myself, would this be too difficult to create for all the escort cards? I came up with ideas to make it easier for me to create a bulk amount of these paper flowers. Here’s a photo of a few of the flower escort cards I made so far:

My favorite detail is actually the mint green leaf which has each guest and corresponding table name. I found the template on aylee’s website, she has a lot of really impressive DIY templates. I think I have used almost all of her templates! We will arrange these escort cards around a flower cake arrangement like the one MrsMek had on her place card table.

The flowers will be arranged in a circular fashion like DRZWife’s green apple place card arrangement.

I gotta say that creating all these flowers was time-consuming but I figured ways to make them easier and faster to create. Instead of using a petal template, I stacked 5 small pieces of paper together and did a freehand design. I used a lot of tranparent tape and wiring to so that the petals stay in place. I’m halfway done and they look pretty good together. Each flower has a slightly different size and design, but I think they represent real flowers because they are all unique from each other. We only have about 75 guests so I don’t have to create nearly as many escort cards as DRZWife’s wedding! If anyone is interested in creating this idea for their escort cards, feel free to ask any questions!

That’s a very pretty idea…. would you happen to have the flower template so that I can borrow your idea?

We’re doing combination escort cards and favors. The favors are custom playing cards (very us), which I wrapped in honest-to-Pete copier paper I’d stamped with some swirls in our accent colors. Copier paper! Beat that for cheap. We’re going to print names and table numbers on strips of vellum and wrap them around the cards like a simple ribbon.

That’s the current plan, anyway. An additional plan is to print fun number stickers, and use them to adhere names to the cards. Our table numbers are collages of photographs of numbers around us (randing from house numbers and license plates to chapter numbers photographed from FH’s textbooks), so it might be neat to just pick the clearest one and print it on stickers.

Eh. I’ve got time. I’m a whole month away!

What size are these? Wondering whether the wording could be a bit larger so it’s easier to read?

I didn’t use a template, I watched the video on the Paper Source website to get ideas. I am kind of doing a quick and dirty approach of making these flowers. I’m not using a template, just simply cutting out a petal shape that about 2 inches in length. To save time I just stacked about 5 sheets of paper so that all the petals match in size. I secure the floral wire with some tape rather than glue because it’s cleaner and I dont’ have to wait for it to dry. The size is…larger than DRZwife’s apples. You could always fiddle around with the font’s size. I increased it so it’s pretty visible.

hi! could you tell me what kind of paper you used? i’m having trouble finding cardstock for my fan programs. and i’m considering your flower idea for escort cards. but i can’t seem to find paper that’s not sold in a variety of colors or by the sheet. i prefer to see and feel it too so i’m not too keen about ordering them online.

I ordered the text paper from http://www.paperandmore.com. For the paper flowers it’s better to use the text paper because the cardstock is too thick and not as flexible to work with. Also, the text paper is like $10 cheaper than the cardstock.

Did you put the floral wire on every leaf? Did you make the middle first and then tape the leaves to it? I’ve been working on these for a while, with the template from Paper Source, and still can’t get it right. Thanks for any help you can give me!
