Time Is On My Side?

May 24th, 2007 @ 11:59 am by Mrs. Kiwi

I haven’t been blogging much lately since I have fallen into a lurch. Most of the big things are done, and the other big-ish things that aren’t are in the hopper to be done soon. It’s times like this that I wonder if there is something else I have to do, this can’t be it, right?

With five months and nine days to go, I’m twiddling my thumbs. Nothing has to be done (minus emailing the church lady, but I don’t know WHY I’m supposed to email her!) right now, and I feel in a funk. For the past couple of months it’s been non-stop: buy this, order that, print this, plan that - and now I’m kinda stuck.

For those of you who were in this position: what do you do when there’s still time, but nothing to do?

It’s nice to know that other people feel this way too! I’m actually in the beginning stages of wedding planning (we’ve been engaged for 3 months and our wedding is next June), and I have the “most important” stuff done - the church and the reception venue. Next on our list is a photographer (which with hopefully be done soon, since we’re interviewing now).

Sometimes, I feel like that’s a really good start, but other times, I’ll be browsing the June 2008 boards and some of those girls have SO MUCH done already! Makes me feel like a slacker and that I should be doing stuff. I’ve already learned to not pay attention so much to what other brides are doing around me (just a little to stay on track) - it can be really stressful trying to keep up with other people!

I think it’s a good thing to feel like you have the important stuff done - Relax! Enjoy some time with FI and family! You deserve it!

Honey, consider yourself lucky! I’ve got 3 months to go and haven’t ordered invitations yet, don’t have a band or dj, no officiant (lets not even go there!), no bridesmaid dresses, and the list goes on and on.
I can’t give you advice from experience, because I’m SO not in your position, but if I had 5 months and everything that could be done was done, I would enjoy being engaged again. Wedding planning sort of spoils it sometimes.
Smile, you’re a lucky gal!

I buy more wedding magazines and go to craft stores and browse wedding sites like the knot. Other than that, I agree with Tyffaknee… relax!

Plan the honeymoon! That’s what I did when I was at that “in between” point.

Miss Kiwi,
I’m in your boat as well… move over so we can relax together. I feel like I have some free time so I attempt to do all the little things so I can enjoy my last week of singleton and because of that, I seriously can’t think of anything left to do (programs, menus, invites, thank you cards made, escort cards done… seriously, what’s wrong with me!!! :P). I think we just need to find another hobby for at least two months before we have to get invitations ready to mail out and whatnot. In the meantime, maybe enjoy the summertime!

Ha, I am feeling the same way…with five months, seven days to go! We already pawned all the hard stuff off onto a planner and having a tiny destination wedding limits the amount of crafty, DIY ’stuff’ I can do, much as I might secretly like to be DIYing my butt off. So I’m just going to relax. I recommend the same. :-)

(Okay, I’m also obsessing over which ring to choose, but that’s a pretty good problem to have.)

I’m in the same boat - we’re got ceremony, reception venues, officiant (and ceremony all planned out with her), photographer, ceremony and reception music etc all done. We’ve been trying to figure out the honeymoon and wedding rings. We don’t HAVE to do either now with 6 months to go, but at least its a fun activity before we really have to do more.

Yup I’m down to just under five months. I guess what I should be doing are all the things that I look at my checklist and go “oh I’ll do that later.” Why not just do it now and get a headstart?

I guess if I had a choice between a stress-free week now or a stress-free week leading up to my wedding, I’d stress myself out doing everything now so I could enjoy my time when all of my family is here (do they really need to watch me finish up all the stuff I put off?)

Miss Blueberry was just blogging about all the little dinky things that are driving her nuts at the last minute. Any little items like that to finish and tick off your list? Or at least get 99% ready? Registry done?

Also agree 100% with Natalie — Plan the honeymoon! And shop for it, of course. There must be some new clothes, sunblock, shoes, guidebooks, tickets for special activities, etc. that need buying/research.

Meanwhile, top priority is to relax and concentrate on your health and happiness!
