Beehive

May 25th, 2007 @ 4:05 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  1. MK would like to see some good pictures of the set-up of a sweetheart table. She envisions hers having some sort of draping on the wall behind it, but she can’t find a picture that depicts that.
  2. Manda wants to make a cake topper much like the ones sold here, but she can’t afford their prices. Anyone know of a good place to find metal letters? (She has found some, but they’re embellished and too small.)
  3. Buffy is looking for recommendations for a good hair stylist and/or makeup artist in New Orleans.

I want to make a cake topper much like the ones at http://www.topperswithglitz.com since I can’t afford their prices! Anyone know of a good place to go to find metal letters…I have found a few, but it seems to be slim pickins’ for non embellished ones that have room for embellishing…

MK - An easier of way of achieving that look without “bothering” the caterer a whole lot is setting up a tri-fold screen thingy in white that can stand alone. Just drap and decorate that and set it up behind you. Your florist may be able to help you with more ideas and pictures.

I bought 3 mirror acrylic letters for under $30 on ebay, and having my FMIL bling them out. The seller was factorydirectmirrors. HTH!

Manda–try Wedding Cuts:
http://www.weddingcuts.com/

It’s associated with a huge industrial letter fabricator–who knew those even existed?
http://www.woodlandmanufacturing.com/

Our cake topper is two 4″ letters and a 2″ ampersand, and it was $95. I know this because I had to dig out a credit card statement in order to remember the name of the company. Let this be a lesson to you all: get a wedding-only credit card, for your own sanity!

Manda - Think low-budget high-quality “industrial” letters to find stuff like this on google:
http://www.woodlandmanufacturing.com/aluminum-letters.asp#pricing
Check that the materials are not unsafe on the cake.

Should I include the vegetarian meal option as one of the entrees in our menu card? Or guests usually just ask the waiter for the option…How many menu cards per table are enough? (table of 10) Thanks!

buffy– diana tran at http://www.rem-a.com is great when it comes to makeup and hair. she normally does it along with her photography. but she might be willing to do just only that.

Manda-

For the cake topper, you could make it into a DIY topper. Get plain toppers like the ones we got from Advantage Bridal (http://www.advantagebridal.com/elwhwecalemo.html and http://www.advantagebridal.com/whorsiwecamo.html).
Then add the jewels to it yourself. :) Hope that helps.

Dear Hive,

I’m a quiet, petite (5′4…almost 5′5) yet curvy pear-shape and would like to know if it would be ridiculous to walk down the aisle with
this gown

I don’t mind being a 2-dress bride–I have already bought
this gown
, which I’ve tried on and really flatters my figure. Any opinions would be much appreciated!!

I would like suggestions for a tailor for alterations, cleaning & pressing of a bridal gown & bridesmaids’ dresses in the Dallas area.

I am making my own invitations, I am trying to figure out what date to put on the reply cards for the RSVP by date. How do I determine when this should be? My wedding date is August 25, 200. THanks!

could you please add this to the next beehive?

my fiance’s aunt and uncle told him my top pick for a wedding venue is haunted. google tells me that there are 7 ghosts that get upset with film crews, but don’t mind weddings. what can i possibly do to smooth this over with the family and the rest of my guests because i’m sure the rumors will fly the whole night and beforehand?

Same as above, can you add this to the next? I’m looking for nice bridesmaid dresses in either light blue or light purple, and I was set on this Ann Taylor one - except when I went to the store, I saw that what looked to be smooth silk was a silk that had horizontal runs in it! Can anyone suggest something in a similar shape and style? My choices are limited because I didn’t want them to be strapless, and the neckline can’t be too low.
Thank you!

RaselShoe - I like your original dress better than the 2nd dress. I can imagine that the original dress really flatters your curves and doesn’t “chop you in half” visually, making you look shorter.

New Question:

I’m looking for websites that show lots of different pink bouquets. There are so many different shades and different flowers that come in pink so I’m having a really hard time deciding. Thanks!

Ann- Absolutely put the vegetarian item on the menu, you never know when something on the menu may not appeal to someone and they don’t think to ask for another option. Also, you should put a menu at every seat, it will look like you forgot something if you only put a few.

good luck!
