About Mrs. Lovebug

Once upon a time, in a galaxy far, far away, a man made a deal with his fiance.

If he could get 10,000 people to join his Facebook group, she would allow him to have Star Wars Stormtroopers escort him up the aisle at their wedding.

They Could Have Yoda As Ring Bearer! : wedding tucson 435 Sto(Talk about your white weddings)

I’m not making this up.

Matt Wiggens’s fiance agreed to the terms, and within two weeks, Matt’s Facebook group had the required 10,000 members. Since their wedding isn’t until October, he’ll probably be able to fulfill the terms of their secondary contract, too: if he can get 20,000 members, he can have the orchestra play the Imperial March.

If you’d like to to join forces with Matt, click here. I guess the lesson here is, never underestimate the power of a Jedi.

What do you guys think? If it meant this much to your fiance and he tried this hard, would you have a Star Wars wedding?

There is no way I would let my fiance do that. I don’t even think that guy tried that hard– it doesn’t take much effort to create a facebook group and I bet it was fairly easy to get people to join, considering the novelty of it. I’m all about making sure my fiance is including and doing what’s important to him, but this would be definitely vetoed!

I say 10,000 is a relatively low number…maybe for 100,000 he can have the StormTrooper escort and for 200,000 he have have an Imperial March.

But he cannot dress like Darth Vader and I will not dress as Princess Leia.

I love my geek.

Ditto cassia.

Not that he would want a Star Wars wedding. He would want me to wear the Princess Leia gold bikini on the honeymoon.

i would let him get away with the storm trooper, but NOT to leaving the church to the imperial march. i would consider leaving the church to one of the happy themes of the movie to be fun.

i agree that is not a very high number to reach 10k and 20k? I would never have agreed to the imperial march for the ceremony no matter how many facebook hits he gets!!

It means a lot to MY fiance that Star Wars is a part of our wedding. I am letting him get away with Star Wars stamps and Star Wars themed table names….and who knows, maybe even a Star Wars grooms cake!

(I will admit, I am working to convince him that maybe his sports fanaticism would be a better display…he doesn’t really need the whole world knowing how nerdy he truly is!

Oh, I just realized that if we only had ten tables, we could name them Hartnell, Troughton, Pertwee, Baker…it’d be tough to discern between 4 and 6, though…and the groom would insist on sitting at table 5, since he’s his favorite.

There, don’t the Star Wars people seem sane in comparison now?

My lordy, let’s hope my fiance doesn’t get wind of this. Actually I’m making our Simpsons cake topper : ) Cause that’s one of the few things he insisted on.

You know, to a certain extent, I say if it gets him excited about the wedding, throw him a bone. I’ve seen so many wedding candids online where the bride is beaming with joy, and the groom looks bored, uncomfortable, or out-and-out miserable.* If it’ll make him that happy, it’s at least worth considering.

Moreover, if facebook guy’s fiancee hadn’t made it an ultimatum, he might have realized it was a silly idea, and called it off before it actually happened. Now they’re both stuck with the idea, and the world is watching. Heck, the galaxy is watching.

*sparklersonline.com used to be the most hilarious site for that, but it looks like they’ve updated their gallery, darnit. I guess the depressed men didn’t sell their product very well.

It’s his wedding too. I hate hate hate, detest, disdain, um…loathe, despise, revile and otherwise not really care for the tradition that says the bride gets “her day” and the groom can fit the things that have meaning to him in around the edges. He wouldn’t have to win any silly bets.

You know… if it mattered to him THAT much, I’d probably give up and just go with it. A bet is a bet, after all. But then, I like Star Wars…

I wouldn’t do everything 100% Star Wars. I mean overplaying a theme is tacky in itself. I would do Star Wars elements.

As it is my FI is a LEGO fiend and we have a cake topper given to us by the company I was planning on using for the groom’s cake or something. He loves it so much it is going on our cake as the only cake topper.

I think it’s kinda fun that the groom is that excited about the whole star wars theme. It will certainly lend itself to an entertaining evening! ;)

bunnybride–you could also make the groom’s cake a big ol’ LEGO brick. And if you mention LEGO favors, I’m totally crashing your wedding.

I actually suggested to my FI that we use the Imperial March as our recessional music. He’s a big Star Wars fan but thought it would be tacky to include it in the wedding. I, on the other hand, thought it would be fun. He doesn’t know it but I’m also getting him a groom’s cake shaped like a stormtrooper helmet - his favorite character.

Absolutely. It shows that he is determined and willing to work at something. Those are wonderful traits to have going into a marriage.

Third comment on one post, kinda embarrassing, but…I do want to let people know that if you want the Imperial March, you’ll almost certainly need to do it from a recording. The Imperial March is fiendishly difficult to play.
