About Mrs. Kiwi

Adios, Chicken!

May 29th, 2007 @ 3:07 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

This morning I received a request for an update on my KP arms. Oddly enough, as I was showering yesterday (sorry for the mental image), I thought to myself, “Hm… definite improvement. Must blog about this.”

After dutifully using this daily for almost two months, I can say that my arms are a bit smoother. It helps to exfoliate constantly as well, but so far so good. Even Mr. Kiwi has commented on how smooth my arms are now, which is cool, since he usually doesn’t notice things like that.

Although I purchased KP Duty, I’m sure you could buy another lotion that is cheaper and easier to find (like Lucerin) with alpha-hydroxy acids in it.

So, with a few more months left, my arms are smoother, yet still slightly scarred from my battles with KP and eczema. Perhaps I should find something with alpha-hydroxy, vitamin E, and cocoa butter as well! Either that, or get a shawl. happy

For those of you who have tried something to get rid of these terrorizing bumps, how’d it go?

Also: Now my problem is dry, flaky elbows… Any hints to get rid of that?

Mix regular granulated sugar with a bit of olive oil and scrub elbows in the shower. When you get out, use a thick cream or lotion with shea or cocoa butter (I like the ones from the Body shop or Origins, but anything rich will do). I haven’t found anything that works better for flaky elbows, knees, and heels than that!

Cool beans! I’m going to have to look into that now, I think. :)

On the elbow thing, here’s something you could try. It might sound strange, but it’s worth a try! Put Vaseline on your elbows before going to bed. Take a pair of old socks, cut off the toes, and wear them over your arms when you’re sleeping. The Vaseline will help moisturize the skin and the socks will keep the Vaseline from the sheets. I suppose you could use heavy-duty lotion, too, but I find Vaseline works really well for my dry skin. Just be sure to find socks that won’t cut off your circulation. :)

Just a thought. Good luck!

For dry skin patches (elbows and feet), I use Bag Balm–the stuff in the square green can. Yes, it is generally used on animals (specifically on horses and cows)… but after 10 years of use on my lips and dry patches, I am still okay and I have the softest lips–never cracked or dry.

In addition to all the buffing and scrubbing, try the Eucerin cream in the tub, or the Walmart “Equate” knock-off at 20% the price works just as well. Slather on nightly.

I’m so bummed, the KP Duty treatment is hard to find in Australia and the stores that do stock it is selling it for $96 australian which is really expensive. I’ll try look for alternative lotions with alpha hydroxy in it.

Thanks for the post!
