Beehive

May 29th, 2007 @ 4:16 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  1. ann would like to know if she should include the vegetarian meal option as one of the entrees on her menu card? Or do guests usually just ask the waiter for the option? Also, at a table of ten, how many menu cards are enough?
  2. RaselShoe is a petite and pear-shaped; she’d like opinions as to whether this gown would be ridiculous on her. (She has this gown now.)
  3. AN would like suggestions for a tailor for the alteration, cleaning, and pressing of a gown and BM dresses in the Dallas area.
  4. M’s wedding date is August 25. What date should she put for the RSVP cards?
  5. stitchpixie’s venue is strongly rumored to be haunted. What can she do to quell rumors and smooth this over with concerned family members?
  6. firsteverweddingparty is hunting for BM dresses in light blue or purple in a smooth silk, not strapless, and with a not-too-low neckline–similar to this.
  7. 2007 Bride is looking for a website with photos of several pink bouquets. Any suggestions?
  8. J emailed us looking for places in LA to take a bride friend for her bachelorette party; can anyone recommend a strip club that’s fun and not seedy?

stitchpixie — Actually, that sounds really cool! At least the ghosts won’t eat much.

J: hollywood men. it’s a show held at the highlands club on hollywood/highland. it’s a show that starts at 8ish and you can stay at the venue afterwards to enjoy the highlands club when it opens up to the general public. the show is pretty mild (no full nudity) and the best part is laughing at all the crazy ladies who really get hot and bothered! you can buy lapdances and it’s totally corny but not seedy; plus when we went for our friend’s bachelorette, it seemed as though every table there was celebrating a bride-to-be or a birthday. you won’t feel out of place.

M-I’m getting married August 25th too! I’m glad I’m not the only person dealing with this who hasn’t printed their invitations yet (I assume you haven’t if you’re working on the RSVP date). I was planning on putting August 1st as our RSVP date. What does everyone else think? Please help us!

ann - Definitely include veg. as a response option. And I think 2 menu cards for a table of ten will be plenty.

Katy & M - put an RSVP date of one week *before* you absolutely need the final count for the caterer/recption. That will give you enough time to call stragglers.

M - I made my due date one week before the caterer wanted the final headcount; we have a smallish guest list, so this will give us more than enough time to follow up on the stragglers.

stitchpixie - I’d probably play it up even more. I’m inclined to think people would realize the ridiculousness of their fear if it were thrown right in their faces. First person who feels the cold, cold hand of death on his shoulder gets to take home the centerpiece!

firsteverweddingparty - have you tried Alfred Angelo? And, okay, I’ll be the one who says it…David’s Bridal?

M and Katy - a false (early) RSVP deadline is a good idea, because you still have to follow up with stragglers.

Firsteverweddingparty -

That Ann Taylor dress is simmilar to my BM dresses. We are doing Dessygroup dress #2001 in ‘Windsor Blue’ - Please don’t be put off by the BRIGHT fushia dress in the picture on-line. The windsor blue is a beautiful color. The Material is a duchess satin, but it is smooth and beautiful. Ours are a lot cheaper too, about $135 after taxes. Here is a link:

raselshoe: i’m also petite and pear shaped: aline ballgowns are hit and miss. i’d see if you could try it on at a store near by before purchasing it.

M–a wedding coordinator suggested calculating the 4 saturdays before the big day. then on sunday to spend time calling those who haven’t rsvp’d and confirming with venues. monday is used for express mailing any invites that were claimed to not have received. anybody else know a better way?

raselshoe, that looks like a LOT of dress for a petite bride. i would look for something less puffy.

i *think* its too much skirt for a petite person. Maybe inbetween what you have and the lazaro in terms of skirt fullness. A nice Aline.

Ann- Being a Vegetarian myself, I would be upset not have an option on the menu card. For some reason Vegetarians are always considered “second class”. It is always a bad bit when I ask for the vegetarian option and the waiter looks at me like I have two heads and then proceeds to tell me that they’re not sure if there is one since it’s not on the menu.

I am not getting married until March 2009, but people are already asking me where I’m registered! I thought I should wait until closer to the date to register but now I’m not sure. How soon is too soon?

Anne- dittoing the veg advice. If there’s no veg option, I usually assume I’ll be having a dinner roll for my meal. Yum.

firsteverweddingparty - I feel your pain trying to find purple dresses for the BMs, I kept hoping that Ann Taylor or J.Crew would release something in the color range.

I ended up getting my dresses from Aria.
This one is similar to what you are looking for: http://ariadress.com/Desciptions/Desc108KA.htm

I sent someone a save the date and now no longer want to invite them to our wedding. Is it possible to just not send them and invitation? They’re a part of our group of friends that is all going - which is why they were invited in the first place (so they wouldn’t be left out)- dumb i know!
