Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!
About Mrs. Kiwi

He Feels Pretty, Oh So Pretty…

May 29th, 2007 @ 12:33 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

Mr. Kiwi is a no-fuss kind of guy. His primping routine includes: shower, shave, brush teeth, put in contacts. On the rare occasion (between haircuts) he may use a squidge of gel, but that’s it. Sometimes he uses a splash of cologne, but since I’m not a fan of the cologne he likes, he usually doesn’t bother.

I’m sort of the same way- in the morning I wake up, put my (usually still wet from the night before’s shower) hair into a messy bun and brush my teeth. Makeup usually isn’t applied, and if it is, it’s at around noon when I’m bored and need something to do. The wedding day look will most likely have lipstick, blush, eye shadow, liner and mascara. Perhaps a set of false eyelashes since I think they look cool. That’s about it.

When I asked Mr. Kiwi if he was planning on doing anything different to himself for the wedding day, he said no. Then, “Yes. I want to have my back done.” Done? He wants (don’t tell him I told you) a full spa treatment for his back- exfoliating, moisturizing, waxing… the whole shebang. Isn’t that cute (and a little gross)?

Other than that, he plans on using some sunscreen, gel and maybe a little bit of cologne, since I’m going to get him some new stuff. He tends to get a little shiny when he gets nervous, and those lights in the church aren’t exactly forgiving, so perhaps I can talk him into keeping some of those shine control sheets with the natural powder in them in his pocket. Like these from The Body Shop, clean and simple sheets to blot the shine away. (Hey, since you can use these over makeup, I may end up getting some for myself!)

Since he’s usually a no-fuss man, his day-of preparation doesn’t surprise me. How does/did your FI/Hubby/BF seem? More fuss, or no fuss?

My DH went the morning of our wedding to get a professional shave. And he left with his slight unibrow removed (hallelujah!) and his hair trimmed up too. He looked fantastic!

My FI will (at my “suggestion”) get a haircut & beard trim from the person doing my hair on the day of. Other than this, it will probably take him 15 minutes to shower & get ready. BTW, your FI may want to do his wax and exfoliation on separate days and more importantly, not on the wedding day. This can leave him pretty red and sore if he’s never had it done before. Also, he could have an allergic reaction to some of the products…just a thought - I’d hate to think of your poor FI in pain or itching on your special day!

my guy is really conscious about how he presents myself in public, so i know for sure he will primp as much as me on the wedding day.

he won’t put on any makeup, but would for sure get his hair done professionally and get a mani/pedi (what can i say? he likes being pampered too)

Mr. Snow Pea takes longer in the bathroom than I do! I am late for work because of him!

The only thing he wants to do special for that day is get a manicure. I also read somewhere that they have professional shaves for men. I might get him a gift cert to that. I think he would really enjoy it.

Just a tip…I like the Boscia blotting papers — they are cheaper per sheet and larger than Body Shop’s: http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P61217&categoryId=C16701

My fiance is still deciding whether he will even shave on the day of our wedding. He’s usually scruffy. I told him to just do whatever he wants to see in our photos 20 years from now.

My man has just started to get a few greys. I’m going to try to convince him to color his hair b4 the big day. I also announced the other day that he was going to do some teeth whitening in the weeks before - this was only after he asked me why his teeth always look yellow in photos????
Our hairdresser is the same person and also one of my closest friends so she’ll be there on the big day to sort out our dos.
The only other thing we’ve been discussing is how he could eliminate some acne scarring he has. Any ideas?

I suggested to my normally no fuss fiance to do a spray on tan for our wedding and honeymoon, and he said sure. That was a pleasant surprise.

We’re having a beard fight at the moment. I think his beard is a long-term thing, which he’ll be wearing for years to come. He thinks his beard is a temporary affectation, and therefore should not appear in something as permanent as a wedding photo. His mother’s total disdain for the beard is not helping my cause.

My DH has long been a metro but he did quit his one bad habit — picking at his nails and cuticles. He was inspired by the all-important “rings” photo. So proud of him.

True to his nature, he planned the timing of his haircut so as to not appear *too* freshly shorn. There was also commitment to regular Crest whitestripping, skin care, and — the one thing I was surprised by — a sudden fascination with the ideal proportions of sideburns. Apparently they can help slim the face. Who knew?

P.S. Much success w/ the $5 safe & effective Tweezerman foot rasp for really rough soles — http://www.amazon.com/Tweezerman-Foot-Rasp-Professional/dp/B000143N86

Dani, how much does he want to spend and what kind of scarring is he trying to get rid of, discoloration or icepick scars? A series of IPL treatments (photofacials) can be good for both, but when all is said and done will run you a grand or so to get the most benefit. For icepick scars, you need something that builds collagen under the depressions.

Retin-A might help as well — it’s even been shown to help fine lines from aging. If he doesn’t have active acne to treat, he can use a low concentration formula to avoid drying out too much. He should really see a good dermatologist, there are so many options.

Thanks AMK for all of the helpful solutions. He needs to see a dermatologist for some other stuff so i’ll remind him to go & ask about the scarring while he’s there.
They are old acne scars - dark in color - although he doesn’t have any acne now, he’s still pretty self conscious about the marks.
