I Propose Some Toast

May 29th, 2007 @ 3:53 pm by Mrs. Lovebug

Non-profit, charity-driven websites rock. Especially when they feature toast. Lots and lots of toast.

Your Name On Toast is this really cool site where you can “buy” an actual piece of toast on which the publishers will then write/draw on with a Sharpie anything you like. They’ll put your name, the name of your company, a stick figure–whatever you want–and the toast will act as a link to your website.

The higher your bid, the more prominently your toast will be placed on the site. All proceeds will be going to charities which the users of the site get to decide on. Examples of toast:

What, you understandably ask, does this have to do with weddings?

Well, for couples going the no-favors, substitute-donations route, this could be fun. You could give your guests cute, toast-shaped cards explaining the donation. Then, your online toast could say “The Lovebugs, 4.19.08,” and link to your wedding photo account.

To up the meta factor, you could tell guests about the virtual toast with a verbal toast — “To our guests, in whose honor we make this donation, etc.”

Or you could just use the site as a funky way to give out your wedding website info. Instead of listing your site on the STDs (or insert, or whatever), you give the Your Name on Toast link. When they get there and see “The Lovebugs”, they’ll click on your toast, find your wedding site, and marvel at your cleverness. Plus, you’ll be giving to a good cause, which always feels nice.

But hurry. The starting bid is up to $60, and will grow as the site gains popularity.

Hmmmm, I thik this would have seriously confused my guests. My grandparents would be all aflutter wondering why the toast is so expensive, and didn’t they request the beef?
