Our Candy Buffet

I bought all of our candy buffet containers many months ago, and since then they have sitting in my closet collecting dust. Yesterday I decided to bring them out and start to work on the candy buffet project. I brought out all the containers and my fiance and I were surprised how many containers we had - I purchased 12 containers?! They were all so pretty and it was kind of addicting to buy because they were so affordable and I found so many unique designs. I think out of all the containers these two are my favorites, both were only $7.99 and I couldn’t just buy one of them! I love how the bases of these jars look - they are so tall and elegant, and allows you to put something cute inside like a small flower.

I really like things to look organized, and I wanted the candy to follow our wedding color scheme. I have to say it was tough to find specific colors, and the prices tend to get higher when you want a custom color rather than an assortment of colors. I found jordanalmonds.com to be the best website for buying large amounts of wedding candy. If you spend over $200, shipping is free and that really saves you money. I also bought some candy from websites such as Candy Warehouse, K&K Kandies, and a few things locally at Wegmans. The shipping costs can be really expensive online especially during the summer time, so I recommend comparing how much it costs online versus just buying it locally.

So yesterday I cleaned all the vases and jars and that took *forever*. Some of these containers were ginormous and I had to be very careful handling them because I didn’t want to crack any edges. I dried each container carefully and I wanted to do a test run to see how the colors looked. I bought two sets of jordan almonds, one in a lavender color and a light green color:

A vase full of chocolate hearts and M&Ms.

The label says “Hearts” but it’s actually a mixture of the M&Ms the the chocolate hearts.

I created some glittery flowers using silk flowers, glue and glitter. They turned out pretty nicely but they were a mess to make! I had glitter all over my clothes and all over my face after making just one flower!

I kept trying to figure out which design looked the best with these apothecary jars and these two came out to be my favorites. I wrote out “grapefruit” and “strawberry puffs” using the monogram wedding stickers. I stuck them on a satin ribbon which wrapped around the jar. To the side of each jar I added a flower-like ribbon I created using random leftover ribbon. The design almost looks like a gown with a sash to the side.

I think these ideas look pretty good but I don’t know how it will look altogether. Should I go with decorating each jar or should I keep it plain and simple without any decor?

For the candy buffet sign, I used a decrepit old gold frame stand which required a major facelift. I found this frame at an estate sale and it originally had a dark green tinted glass cover which made it difficult to see anything through the frame. It was terrible sight. Ugh, I wanted to throw out the frame but I gave it one more chance. I tried to figure out ways to avoid using the tinted glass, and then.. Eureka! I figured out a way to brighten up the frame by covering the tinted glass with gift wrap and making a more three demensional sign by adding paper flowers and rhinestones.

I’ll definitely have to stick this somewhere on our candy buffet table. Hopefully, there will be some room along with the 12 containers! :)

Hey, the “S” monogram sticker gave me an idea — it looks a lot like the Sheraton logo! If you have a stash of hotel freebies from prior stays, they can be used in the restroom baskets.

I love all your different jars! So gorgeous!

I would keep the decorations simple. I would also think about making small labels (business card sized) instead of using the monogram stickers; I think they are a little hard to read.

Now I want candy!

i say skip the decorations on the jars, and let the candy be the color/decor. you’ve got quite a few colors going on already, so i think the decorations will only distract or make the table even busier.

the sign is cute, though. yay for no longass rhyme on it ;).

We, too are doing candy in our wedding colors. So far, all of our jars are the same (bought on sale at Michael’s for $3 apiece) but I’d really like to splurge on a few larger ones for the candy I know we will be buying more of (chocolate!)

I agree that you shouldn’t decorate them. Our jars don’t have lids but will each have a plastic scoop, which I may tie a ribbon to, but that would be it. Let the guests notice the intentional color scheme going on instead of trying to do more and more and more!

And I like the frame. Still thinking about how to label the jars and set up the table (at this point, I don’t even know where we will PUT the table!)

So cute! May I ask where you got all your jars/containers? I can’t find anything near as great as those that aren’t over $25 each….

The apothecary jars are too pretty and unique to be cluttered up :) You could probably make some really pretty table decorations for it, but the jars are gorgeous unadorned.

Those jars are great! I found some really cheap huge jars at Marshalls and TJ Maxx. I’d keep some of them undecorated, so not too look too busy.

You can always decorate the table surface instead with a pretty tablecloth, and maybe some ribbons or flowers on the tabletop?

Your candy buffet is going to be so cute! I actually love the big sparkley silk flower… although apparently I am the only one since everyone else says to go sans decorations. I never wanted to do a candy buffet, but your pictures are making me wonder if I should change my mind….

Go simple with the jar decor. Maybe just the ribbon with no stickers or flowers. The colors from the candy will stand out more — it’ll look fantastic!

i agree with go amie. it was hard to make out the candy names on the ribbon. I’d leave that out and just put signs in front of the jars. That’ll make it easier to read, especially if your venue will be a little darker.

I think I agree with all of you guys, I think I’ll take away some of the ribbons because they really take away from candy display. I think I might add some larger paper flowers in the same lavender & light green colors. Thanks for everyone’s opinions! :)

Wegman’s is seriously the best grocery store! I grew up in NY and live in CA now but I haven’t seen any store with a bigger candy selection than wegmans!

Just a general question about candy buffets, how many lbs did you buy and how many ppl are you expecting? I think I’ve read this answer before but I just started thinking about having one yesterday so I’m kidna lost at where to start! Thanks!

I got most of my jars from TJ Maxx and various Home Goods. I collected them over several months whenever I was shopping for random stuff there.
