Mrs. Pumpkin's Picture

About Mrs. Pumpkin

I am totally not bitter about the fact that it is impossible for me to have chiavari chairs at my wedding. I am sooooo okay with it. Really, I am fine with it. I could care less. There are so many more important issues in the world today than whether or not Miss Pumpkin has pretty chairs at her wedding. I didn’t really want those ceremony programs from MS Weddings that hang on the sides of the chairs by cute little ribbon loops.

I’m trying to use these little daily affirmations to help me get over the fact that I can’t have my coveted chiavari chairs at my wedding. Do you think it’s working? Me neither…

One of the hardest parts of wedding planning for me has been accepting the fact that there are some options that are just not possible for me. Flipping through MS Weddings or InStyle is sometimes painful because I know that the set-ups featured in them are just not offered in my neck of the woods. Chiavari chairs are one of those thing that I would be willing to splurge on but there just isn’t anyone around here who offers them to rent.

These are the best options available to me:

So, we’re going with the first option as the ceremony chairs on the island and the second option for the reception under the tent. My thinking is that the covers will be nice on the island because there won’t be much else there for decoration, and that the covers aren’t needed at the reception because the whole tent will be decorated. I bought the pink organza sashes here for about $1 CAD each but we have to iron and then tie them all ourselves! It is when I think of that job that I wish I could hire a DOC. I think what I’ll do is rent one chair overnight and just sit in front of the TV and tie bows all night. If we have them ready to just slip onto the chairs it should make doing it the day of a lot faster.

Here is a picture from Red Leaf Studios of a wedding at my ceremony site with similar chairs and slip covers - it looks alright, right?

Has there been anything that you simply cannot find or is impossible for you to have at your wedding, not necessarily because of cost, but because of logistics or availability in your area?

if it makes you feel any better, I went to a wedding that did have the chiavari chairs. And while they were purty, they were kinda uncomfy :) I think that picture at your site looks fine!

Ahhh… nevermind. I found them. I call those “bamboo frou frou chairs”. I didn’t know they had a name. :)

i do, i do! i want chiavari chairs. but, they’re too expensive (350 chairs). that is why we’re doing chair covers + bows instead. they look just as nice. :)

your ceremony site will look beautiful!

Don’t worry so much about the chairs. In the photos they are all covered with happy dressed up people anyway.

I am having chivari chairs but I really wanted bentwood chairs…I *could* have had them, but since they had to come from DC, they would have been about $22/chair. So goodbye to that.

I also really wanted a photobooth. It would have been over budget, but I really wanted it. Unfortunately, I tried emailing some companies, but again it would have to come from far away (read: more $$$) and I was nervous about the one company that said they would do it. They seemed sketchy. So no fun photobooth guestbook for me.

The good news is that I am sure I will survive, and so will you! Your ceremony will be absolutely beautiful with the covered chairs and no one will even notice the chairs at the reception because they will be having so much fun.

As I get closer to the wedding, I realize more and more that as long as we have two witnesses and someone who can legally marry us, everything else is gravy. So the answer to the question in your title is a confident, resounding, no one!

P.S. I agree w/ Jessi that these chairs are not particularly comfortable. So… if more comfortable chairs help your guests stay longer — you score!

i’ve been to three events in the last 3 months with chivari chairs. because they were all rentals, most of them were chipped and smudged. i am so over the chivari.

the only people that notice the chairs are the first people in the venue … because no one is sitting in the chairs and you can see it all. after everyone is in, who cares?

The chairs look fine. If you look back and remember the chairs at your wedding in 10 years, I will be surprised! You and your husband will think back and laugh. :-)

Have you considered the spandex chair covers? they are so much more modern looking and you can rent them nationwide.

Looks like I’m the Oddball here but I actually prefer the uncovered ones you have pictured for an outdoor ceremony. The covered chairs look so formal, plus, it covers up all the nice green lawn. Why not consider saving some time, effort, and money and using the uncovered plain white ones with some super-awesome aisle decorations instead (ie. flowers at the end of each row and a aisle runner)?

Fatafelice - I really wanted a photobooth too!

Amanda - I do like those covers much better but unfortunately they are not available in Saskatchewan yet.

you can’t get rent them? There are a ton of companies that rent and ship and you just ship them back. Is that an option?

sweetie, I just came across your site and really understand your desire for the chiavari chairs.. My daughter wants them so badly but they cost so much. I am working on a discount and if I get it, I may splurge and only because I know this is so huge for her. She too hates the covered chairs.. But I wanted to ask you about your name tag idea for the chairs. If you don’t mind me asking.. We were thinking of other ways to work in the seating names with the favors but I liked the idea of a hanging name tag. So, if you feel like sharing and if it will make you feel at least that you helped someone else achieve their chair desires please tell me what your idea for chair name tag was. you can email me at chewiesat5@yahoo.com. Her wedding is in may over memorial day weekend. thanks!
