New Characters: Candy!

May 30th, 2007 @ 1:56 pm by Mrs. Bee

Hi everyone!

First we had bugs, then flowers, then fruits and veggies. Now we’re happy to announce that our next batch of characters is…. candy!

Why candy you ask? Candy buffets are a wedding trend that’s been going strong for a couple years now and they show no sign of slowing down. Plus they’ll make such cute weddingbee characters! ;)

We have a whopping 9 bees getting married in June and July - Miss Bell Pepper, Pumpkin, Bluebell, Plum, Tomato, Raspberry, Hibiscus, Pearl, Lemon. We’ll miss them all, but we need to add new bees like crazy now.

Miss Lovebug and I have come up with the following candy characters so far:

  • gumdrop
  • bubble gum
  • jelly bean
  • candy cane
  • peppermint
  • licorice
  • lollipop
  • gummi bear
  • caramel
  • taffy

What would you add to this list? (Keep in mind, it can’t be anything copyrighted, which eliminates a lot of possibilities.)

we’re trying to stick to candy, because we might do a separate batch on sweets - honey, chocolate, cupcake, etc. ;)

Hahaha, Miss Kiss? Miss pixie stix? Miss Pez? I think Miss Gumball would be better than Bubble Gum, to be honest. Rock Candy? Wax Lips? Cinnamon? Marshmallow?

we can’t use anything that has a copyright like lifesavers, hershey’s kiss, etc.

conversation hearts are cute too but the name is too long and not cute.

and miss lovebug suggested miss lemon drop, but we didn’t want people to get that confused with miss lemon. :)

Not sure if you would get in trouble for it not being generic enough…but Miss. M&M

Love the cotton candy and candy corn suggestion - they would look so cute as icons. How about butterscotch? Would breath mint be too weird? Yogurt covered Raisins? or something with cinnamon like a Red Hot?

What about Miss Sweet Tart? I love how it could represent two conflicting parts of a bride’s personality.

Toffee and Cinnamon Heart! And seriously if you use Miss Smartie (although I’m guessing you can’t due to copyright) then you HAVE to let me be the Miss Smartie bee… my surname is Smart and Miss Smartie has been my nickname since forever!

Has anyone else had that candy-like snack with cereal coated in peanutbutter, chocotale, and powdered sugar? I don’t know if there’s a nation-wide name for it, but in the Carolinas we call it “white trash” or “puppy chow.” It’s a great candy, but the names I know aren’t that great.

maybe for this new batch of bees you could have certain requirements so that there is more diversity on the site. i.e., a bride incorporating african-american traditions such as jumping the broom, a jewish bride (or a bride having a traditional jewish ceremony), a south asian bride having a traditional hindu ceremony, or even a bride hosting a traditional christian/catholic ceremony. i love weddingbee as a resource for wedding ideas, but i also view it as a place to learn about the wedding traditions of other cultures. it seems all the focus is on chinese/korean/vietnamese/japanese traditions. there are 22 asian bees on the site, and while they are all quality bloggers who have shared a wealth of information and knowledge that could work for any bride, i think this site could serve it readers better if there was a bit more diversity. just something to think about. keep up the good work!!!

gumdrop is good. bubble gum would be kind of weird- would it be a pink ball or bubble? jelly bean has possibilities, though it’s kind of ambiguous. Candy cane and peppermint are both good, although of course, they’re both the same color scheme. licorice is ok. Lollipop sounds good. And a gummi bear would be cute. Caramel and taffy are kinda like bubble gum- they’re kind of ambiguous.
