Mr. Pumpkin and I had our joint shower in his hometown this weekend and it was an absolute blast! As I blogged about earlier, the hostesses are the moms of all of the kids in town who are the same age as Mr. Pumpkin, so they all know both of us really well and the embarrassing/secret stories all came out! They told stories that even our moms didn’t know about, and we were all just rolling in laughter. Mr. Pumpkin even showed up in his Sunday best (I was a little worried that he would show up wearing a t-shirt with skulls or profanity on it) and the hostesses made me, my Mom, his Mom and his Grandmom very pretty corsages. I couldn’t have asked for a better afternoon! It was, in every way, the perfect shower.
We started with some mingling and then the ladies sat us down at the head table with my MOH, his BM, my Mom, his Mom and his Grandmom. After they introduced the head table, one of the hostesses gave a little speech about me. She talked about my family, things I had accomplished in high school and have accomplished since then, talked about how Mr. Pumpkin and I met and then told a couple of funny stories about me.
Then the fun really began! As you may have already picked up on, Mr. Pumpkin is and always has been a trouble maker! On top of that, he is the sweetest talker I know. It is sort of a deadly combination that he can pull all sorts of crap and then completely talk his way out of trouble every time. So, there was plenty of material for them to draw from for his speech. The Mom of Mr. Pumpkin’s best friend from the town gave his speech and it was hilarious.
Mr. Pumpkin is obviously trying to talk his way out of something here…
After that we played a fun version of the newlywed game where we had to answer questions about each other (mother’s middle name, favorite food, age we were when we had our first kisses, etc) and if we got it wrong we had to put a piece of Bubblicious in our mouths. Those suckers are HUGE! Luckily I only got two questions wrong but poor Mr. Pumpkin didn’t fare as well. I think that he was secretly swallowing the gum though because he should’ve had much more trouble than he did!
I am trying to blame my wrong answer on my MOH…
… no one bought it and I was forced to stick another piece of gum in my mouth.
And finally we opened presents! We had quite the system going by the end of it. Mr. Pumpkin would give me the card to open, he would open the present, my MOH would write what the present was on the card and the BM would take the gift to be passed around after that.
They even made Mr. Pumpkin wear the hat they made out of the bows - he was such a good sport the whole day.
We received such lovely gifts from everyone and we were really overwhelmed with the generosity! I get all mushy when I think about it because I felt such love from the town that afternoon. I caught a little glimpse into that feeling that makes Mr. Pumpkin really sad to move away. A lot of people went to a lot of trouble to throw that shower for us, some people that neither Mr. Pumpkin nor I know very well. I am just so grateful to have had that experience!
