Wedding Quotes of Love And Joy

May 30th, 2007 @ 12:07 pm by Mrs. Tomato

I was working on my guestbook last weekend (decided to go with mypublisher) when I had the idea of incorporating quotes throughout the book. After some web searching, here are a few of my favorites:

To Be One With Each Other

What greater thing is there for two human souls
than to feel that they are joined together to strengthen
each other in all labor, to minister to each other in all sorrow,
to share with each other in all gladness,
to be one with each other in the
silent unspoken memories?
-George Eliot

The strongest and sweetest songs yet remain to be sung.
- Walt Whitman

The greatest happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved, loved for ourselves, or rather loved in spite of ourselves.
-Victor Hugo

Let joy be unconfined.
- Mark Twain

Across the years I will walk with you -
in deep green forests; on shores of sand:
and when our time on earth is through,
in heaven, too, you will have my hand
-Robert Sexton

Love
Love is a friendship that has caught fire.
It is quiet understanding, mutual confidence, sharing and forgiving.
It is loyalty through good and bad.
It settles for less than perfection,
and makes allowances for human weakness.
Love is content with the present.
It hopes for the future and it doesn’t brood over the past.
It’s the day-in and day-out chronicle of irritations, problems,
compromises, small disappointments, big victories,
and working toward common goals.
If you have love in your life,
it can make up for a great many things you lack.
If you don’t have it, no matter what else there is,
it is not enough, so search for it, ask God for it, and share it.

Why Marriage?
Mari Nichols-Haining
Because to the depths of me, I long to love one person,
With all my heart, my soul, my mind, my body… Because I need a forever friend to trust with the intimacies of me,
Who won’t hold them against me,
Who loves me when I’m unlikable,
Who sees the small child in me, and
Who looks for the divine potential of me…Because I need to cuddle in the warmth of the night
With someone who thanks God for me,
With someone I feel blessed to hold… Because marriage means opportunity
To grow in love in friendship…
Because marriage is a discipline
To be added to a list of achievements…

Because marriages do not fail, people fail
When they enter into marriage
Expecting another to make them whole…

Because, knowing this,
I promise myself to take full responsibility
For my spiritual, mental and physical wholeness
I create me, I take half of the responsibility for my marriage
Together we create our marriage…

Because of this understanding
The possibilities are limitless.

I Love You,
Not only for what you are,
but for what I am when I am with you,
not only for what you have made of yourself,
but for what you are making of me.
I love you for the part of me that you bring out.
I love you for putting your hand into my overflowing heart
and passing over all the foolish, weak things that can’t help,
dimly seeing there, and for drawing out into the light all the
beautiful belongings that no one else had looked quite far enough to find.
I love you because you are helping me to make the dreams of my life
not a thought but a reality,
Out of the works of my every day not a reproach but a song…
Yes, a Love song..
-Roy Croft

Does anyone know where I can buy rub-off transfer paper that I can run through my printer? I would love to print out some of these quotes and then rub them on to a guest book.

I love the quote that says
“To the world you may be only one person, but to one person, you may be the world”.
My all time favorite quote is “To be great is to be misunderstood” - Ralph Waldo Emerson.

My favorite quotes are from Winnie the Pooh:

“Pooh” whispered Piglet.
“Yes, Piglet” replied Pooh.
“Nothing,” answered Piglet,
“I just wanted to be sure of you.”

“If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day, so I never have to live without you.”

“It’s so much more friendly with two.”

“Pooh, promise me you won’t forget about me, ever. Not even when I am a hundred.”
Pooh thought for a little.
“How old shall I be then?”
“Ninety-nine.”
Pooh nodded. “I promise,” he said.

“Some people care too much, I think it’s called love.”

And this one, although nothing to do with love:

Wherever they go, and whatever happens to them on the way, in that enchanted place on the top of the forest, a little boy and his Bear will always be playing.
Winnie the Pooh
From closing lines of The House at Pooh Corner

I really like this poem I came across the other day and may use as a reading in our ceremony:

The Art of Marriage

The little things are the big things.
It is never being too old to hold hands.
It is remembering to say “I love you” at least once a day.

It is never going to sleep angry.
It is at no time taking the other for granted;
The courtship should not end with the honeymoon,
It should continue through all the years.

It is having a mutual sense of values and common objectives.
It is standing together facing the world.
It is forming a circle of love that gathers in the whole family.
It is doing things for each other, not in the attitude of duty or sacrifice, but in the spirit of joy.

It is speaking words of appreciation, and demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways.
It is not expecting the husband to wear a halo, or the wife to have the wings of an angel.
It is not looking for perfection in each other.

It is cultivating flexibility, patience, understanding and a sense of humour.
It is having the capacity to forgive and forget.
It is giving each other an atmosphere in which each can grow.

It is finding room for the things of the spirit.
It is a common search for the good and the beautiful.
It is establishing a relationship in which the independence is equal, dependence is mutual, and the obligation is reciprocal.

It is not only marrying the right partner,
It is BEING the right partner.
This is the art of marriage.

We are not the same persons this year as last; nor are those we love.
It is a happy chance if we, changing, continue to love a changed person.

We’re using both the “Love” and the “I love you” as readings. “Love” is Ann Landers. Perfect for us.

Oh, and we have this one on our website.

“Falling in Love is Like Owning a Dog” by Taylor Mali

First of all, it’s a big responsibility,
So think long and hard before deciding on love.
On the other hand, love gives you a sense of security:
when you’re walking down the street late at night
and you have a leash on love
ain’t no one going to mess with you.
Because crooks and muggers think love is unpredictable.
Who knows what love could do in its own defense?

On cold winter nights, love is warm.
It lies between you and lives and breaths
and makes funny noises.
Love wakes you up all hours of the night with its needs.
It needs to be fed so it will grow and stay healthy.

Love doesn’t like being left alone for long.
But come home and love is always happy to see you.
It may break a few things accidentally in its passion for life,
but you can never be mad at love for long.

Is love good all the time? No! No!
Love can be bad. Bad, love, bad! Very bad love.

Love makes messes.
Love leaves you little surprises here and there.
Love needs lots of cleaning up after.
Sometimes you just want to get love fixed.
Sometimes you want to roll up a piece of newspaper
and swat love on the nose,
not so much to cause pain,
just to let love know ‘Don’t you ever do that again!’

Sometimes love just wants to go for a nice long walk.
Because love loves exercise.
It runs you around the block and leaves you panting.
It pulls you in several different directions at once,
or winds around and around you
until you’re all wound up and can’t move.

But love makes you meet people wherever you go.
People who have nothing in common but love
stop and talk to each other on the street.

Throw things away and love will bring them back,
again, and again, and again.
But most of all, love needs love, lots of it.
And in return, love loves you and never stops.

Jilly - I LOVE that! My fiance and I are big dog people and animal lovers, and got a puppy 10 months ago so that reading is perfect for us.

The Promise

Throughout the passing years as the world seems ever changing, we share the smiles and tears of life with love that’s so far ranging. And after all is said and done, I’ll be the one beside you. I’ll be your love and loyal friend until the end, beside you. Each flower bends with time, each leaf descends with every autumn. But you and I will find our love won’t die or be forgotten. When you and I are gray when youth has gone and life is dimming, I promise that I’ll stay beside you like we were beginning…

“I believe the nicest and sweetest days are not those on which anything very splendid or wonderful or exciting happens, but just those that bring simple little pleasures, following one another softly, like pearls off a string.” –Lucy Maud Montgomery

Love isn’t when you know can spend a life time with the person. It’s when you’re with someone for only 10 minutes and it feels like it’s been a lifetime in heaven.

i carry your heart with me - e.e. cummings

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)
