Mrs. Kiwi's Picture
Mrs. Kiwi, Los Angeles Age and Occupation in 06: 27, Bookkeeper Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, P.E. Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!
About Mrs. Kiwi

Hmmmm. I Was Wrong.

May 31st, 2007 @ 5:01 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

Hey, remember that one post that said I was running out of things to do? Yeah, not so much. I’ve since narrowed down a few invite choices, gotten a few last minute addresses for our straggler Save the Date cards, decided on what gift to give our Best Man, narrowed down the reading choices (although not the actual readers), and found out the date of my shower. So apparently, I’m a liar. happy02

Me thinks it was stupid to assume I was out of things to do. Now I realize I was just putting off doing some of the things that weren’t fun (I think a reader mentioned doing the things that were further down the list while I have time). So… yeah. Now I have to decide the order of the ceremony (I have no idea), I have to figure out who is going to walk the mothers down the aisle, and I need to actually order invitations. Frig.

I think right now the invitation thing is the item I need to attend to. Anyone have any idea how early to order invitations? Also, how do you know when to have your RSVP date? Bluuuurg. It’s funny, at this time last year I was happily gloating to all that I have “plenty of time”, and that I couldn’t believe there would be a day when I’d get to say, “Yeah, the wedding is in five months!”

I am now in the time span of “If I accidentally get pregnant, no one will be able to tell”. Yeeaah.

Hahahaha yeah I was totally timing my time until the wedding based on a) if I’d have already had the baby b) if i wouldn’t be able to wear my dress c) i’d have to have the dress altered d) i wouldn’t be showing yet. With three weeks to go i think i am officially not in risk of showing! hehe.

As for the STUFF, yeah, do whatever you can now!!! And I would also order the invites the second you have the info for them. As I posted before my invites didn’t get to me until weeks after we hoped to send them out because of our communications issues with our stationer. Just be on the safe side - if it’s all final, then do it NOW and then you’ll have time to procrastinate on addressing or stamping them later if you’re feeling lazy. :-)

(1) LOL–I’m in that “time span” too!
(2) We ordered our invites in March for an Aug wedding. Our RSVP date is 6 weeks prior to the event b/c EVERYONE (sans 3 local couples) are coming in from out of state. Yes, STATE.
(3) With just under 80 days left… I am finding that I am not out of things to do either.

Has anyone else been having “those dreams?” You know… the ones where you are at the ceremony and “x” isn’t there? The most recent “x” was my DAD! He was in the bar. LOL–the silly things I dream about.

I know how you feel. Sometimes I feel like woohoo! I am so way ahead of schedule! And other times I’m like oh crud I still have to do….! The woes of wedding planning.

Our RSVP date was 3 weeks before our wedding. Our final numbers are due to the caterer 2 weeks before the wedding (tomorrow), so that gave us a week to catch any late RSVPs and contact people we hadn’t heard from. We were pleased to have received responses from over 75% of our guest list by the RSVP date, last Friday.

I’m in a similar time frame… And also gloated about how much time I had a month ago…. And also am looking at the to do list that is not getting smaller.

im getting married in oct, and your list is very helpful! LOL!

Maybe, could we have a post for things we (I) havent/wouldnt think about? ie: who walks the mother’s down type of things?

I think that would be helpful!

This cracked me up (and I confess thinking the same thing as the wedding got closer, ha!) — I am now in the time span of “If I accidentally get pregnant, no one will be able to tell”.

P.S. Don’t feel too rushed to pick your readers. For us, the final cast turned out to be a little different than we had thought. Fortunately, we waited to pick readers from those who RSVP’d “yes” which spared the embarrassment of anyone finding out they were not “first choice.” It was surprising that a few super-close folks (who would have had a role in the ceremony) couldn’t make it.

i should’ve made my rsvp date sooner. a wedding coordinator suggested to make it 4 saturdays before the big day. and spend sunday calling those who didn’t rsvp and overnighting lost invites onmonday. i know i’m going to feel so anxious not knowing “final” numbers til then.
word of advice…things always take longer than you plan. i made 3 trips to the post office before i could finally send them out. (once to just check/estimate how much it would cost, 2nd buy the stamps, 3rd, buy more stamps) i thought 3 hours would be enough to stuff/stamp/get ready invites…that became more like 3 days.

Oh, with the who-is-walking-the-mothers-down-the-aisle question: Ask the moms if they have a preference. Worked for us! Done in 2 seconds and crossed off the list.

it depends where you’re ordering them from, but you should allow yourself ample time to address and send them out around 8 weeks before your wedding.

i had a pretty good and fast experience with mygatsby for my brother’s wedding. :)

I did the traditional route of Crane invites from a paper boutique. It took many drafts over the course to get them how I wanted, which actually took 2-3 months, because (sadly) I cannot live at the paper boutique.

So, allow a few months for designing, a few weeks to a month for printing, a few weeks for writing them yourself or hiring a calligrapher, and minimum 8 weeks before your wedding. I’d say 5-6 months is when it’s time to take a serious look at invitations. Right on track!

Our RSVP date is 3 weeks before, but I’m wondering if I should have made it 4 weeks… Oh well!
