Answering Questions

June 1st, 2007 @ 2:41 pm by Mrs. Blueberry

I’ve got all my vendor reviews written up, and they’re sitting safe and sound in my laptop…at home…where we don’t currently have internet smiley4

So, for the sake of putting up *some* sort of relevant (and perhaps even marginally interesting!) post, I’ll publicly answer several of the questions I’ve gotten here and on Weddingbee these past few days.

Minimoon–a recap–Part II
AS asked, “why are all your pictures so blurry?”
Oh, come on–I don’t think they’re that bad! And the ones that are blurry–that’s because my camera sucks (it is flash-happy on autoflash, and doesn’t do so well indoors), and so do I. Buy me a Nikon D40 if you want good pics smiley4

L asked, “Did you ever mention where you’re going on your honeymoon? Or is the planning in the works?”
I think I might have mentioned it in passing a time or two, but no, we don’t have it nailed down yet. That’s Mr B’s job–so you know it’ll be a while before it gets done! smiley5 But we’re thinking of a cruise somewhere, and it’ll almost definitely be this coming January–a combined honeymoon + graduation gift to ourselves! One last hurrah before law school and the real world, y’know.

Joyful asked, “What resort is this? It looks incredable.”
It was the Lodge of Four Seasons in Lake Ozark, Missouri. Just a couple miles from Osage Beach, where all the outlet mall shopping and mini golfing went down. And yes, it *is* incredible. Next time we go back we’re going to stay in the main resort building and try at least a couple of the on-site resaurants. Definitely recommended smiley1

Sally_Nichole asked, “You showed your wedding gift, but what did you get Mr. Blueberry?”
Oops! Good thought smiley5. I’ll make an entry on that soon!

Ask, And Ye Shall Receive
Miss Pumkin asked, “Even your guests are dressed in various shades of blue - did you request that or was that just a happy coincidence?”
Just a happy coincidence! Well, except for the moms. We did ask them to wear blue.

Helen asked, “Did you do your own make-up? You didn’t hire an artist?”
Yes I did, and no I didn’t! smiley4 Doing my own makeup was actually pretty easy, and fairly soon here I’ll put up a step-by-step tutorial of my method. I devised it from everyone’s suggestions on my makeup trial post, and hints from a few various makeup application guides.

BoMBSHELLxKiSSES asked, “did u 2 marry in your backyard?”
Nope; our venue was a historic mansion in a nearby suburb. We had the ceremony in its garden. But the mansion is surrounded by condos; that’s probably what you’re seeing in the pics.

Tales from the Other Side
Robyn asked, “When you have more time, I’d like to hear more about why you think the dancing didn’t catch-on throughout the night. Was it because guests were seated in different rooms or because the dancing was held in a different location than where guests were seated (i.e. the dance floor wasn’t visible to everyone)?”
Thanks for asking! I hope I can help you avoid the same disaster at your wedding (Ok, ‘disaster’ may be overstating it a bit). We had three rooms: a ballroom (DJ + dancing), a parlor (buffet), and a garden room (tables). There was also a large patio off the garden room, with more tables. The parlor connected the ballroom to the garden room, and we had open seating throughout–no assigned seats of any kind. I think the lack of dancing stemmed from a few causes: 1)the awful DJ, who didn’t follow the playlist we gave him–there wasn’t much upbeat, ‘dancing’ music at all; nothing that got the guests out of their seats and moving. 2)Despite how the venue’s owner presented it to us, there really wasn’t a ‘flow’ among the rooms. We did everything we could in advance to try and create one, but really the ballroom just started to seem like an outpost over in the corner, while the ‘real’ party was in the garden room and overly-congested parlor. Guests couldn’t just relax and watch people dancing, and those who wanted to dance had to go to the effort of travelling to a separate room. So if your venue’s owner/manager is trying to pitch this idea to you, I would honestly be *very* wary. Attend another event in the same space to see if there really is a flow and energy, or if the owner is just blowing smoke. I wish I’d done that, because that really was one of the most disappointing aspects of the evening and really put a damper on the whole mood.

marvil said, “I’m interested to hear how the dessert buffet went over with your guests…”
I’ll probably do a whole post on this later (food quantities, etc) but overall I’ve gotta say: really well! Tons of people commented on how unusual and delicious everything was, and it was all definitely very popular. We have tons of leftovers, but then again we had tons of food there. I think everyone ate a whole lot! smiley1

L asked, “BTW, who is Alice?”
Oops, probably should’ve explained that before smiley5 She was our venue’s owner.

And most of all–thank you to everyone who sent us well-wishes and congrats! They’re very appreciated smiley1

Hey Mrs. Blueberry! Thanks so much for explaining the dancing situation at your wedding. It helps me imagine what I might be able to do to at least mitigate a similar situation at my wedding. It sucks that your DJ didn’t do as you asked…Grrr! Congratulations, again!

Ok, I’m quite relieved by my venue choice, now. My FI seriously loved a venue that is remarkably similar to yours–there was the room with the tables; another, adjacent, room for dancing, a bar area completely removed, and an outside patio with tables and another bar. The place was gorgeous and FI loved that everyone wasn’t going to be stuck in the same place and there were lots of little areas people could hang out in. But I was pretty sure nobody would dance and since our guest list is only 70 people, I didn’t think we needed all of the different nooks. Eventually we decided on another venue because of this and I’m so glad we did!
