He proposed exactly 1 year, 1 month and 6 days after our first date (it's the only part of his proposal speech that I remember), and we're planning long-distance from Los Angeles for a July wedding in my hometown of Monterey, CA. Best Invitation Decision EVER!

June 1st, 2007 @ 12:28 pm by Mrs. Lemon

With 1/3 of the results in… I can proudly declare that the time I spent designing our RSVP card was well worth it! I’ve heard the RSVP horror stories and I vowed to try my best to completely avoid it… and I think I can safely say that I succeeded! (I spent a lot of time in graduate level statistics courses analyzing the error rates attributed to confusing forms and questionnaires, so I’m hoping this one nabs me an A in the end! :))

So, what does a good RSVP have on it? For me, it needed to have room for the full names for all guests, their personal meal choices (since our place cards must indicate their meal choice), as well as their hotel information if they were coming from out of town. So, when I ran across this design from Good on Paper Design, I knew it was the perfect choice! None of the invited parties had more than 5 guests, so the number of lines excluded some sort of crazy “I’m bringing 22 people” response… and I think that my psuedo-inner envelope helped out by indicating exactly “who” was invited by making it very obvious.

Each guest had their own line with two questions to answer: Are you coming and what are you eating? Now, keep in mind that I did not fill in any of the lines for my guests and each returned card has had a clearly written first and last name for each guest, as well as their meal choice, arrival date and hotel information clearly stated. I didn’t include a kids meal choice, since only a few kids are coming, but all of the moms clearly stated (KID) on the form and asked if another meal was available.

So… I’ve got an easy meal count, the correct names for everyone, and the right spot to drop off OOT goodies! Success!

Did anyone come across RSVP successes or failures due to the format they used?

A+!

My carnivore relatives would like the animal pictures for food choices.

The “Where you will be staying” question was clever (and helps not just for OOT goodies, but also for carpooling, locating mutual friends/family, etc.). I see you resisted the temptation to provide a checkbox that reads “At Miss Lemon’s apartment” ha ha.

We had two blanks per invite, so DH’s gma just included a piece of paper with 10 names listed on it. Just when you think you’ve got it all figured out…

Love the detailed RSVPs! That was the first thing I noticed when you originally blogged about your invitations. :-)

It’s not an RSVP story, but based on your statistics courses, you’ll like this story: my MOH’s father worked for 30+ years at a business form designer and printer. The local cable company was going to start offering a new service, and had a business reply card designed; their original design had only a “yes” checkbox if you wanted to add the new service, and the instruction to do nothing if you didn’t. The form company tried their darndest to convince the cable company that they really, really needed to have a “no” checkbox, but they just wouldn’t listen.

So people drew their own.
