Black or White?

June 1st, 2007 @ 3:58 pm by Mrs. Bell Pepper

I am such a procrastinator. I have one week to go until our rehearsal dinner and I still haven’t found a pair or shoes and a dress that I really like. I decided to go shopping yesterday and I tried on a bunch of different dresses and nothing really impressed me. I did find one dress from Ann Taylor: it has a pretty floral burnout overlay design.

The only problem is the dress is black and it doesn’t have a summery feel to it. I feel like I should be wearing something yellow, white, pink or red. I bought it because it looked great at the store and I then I tried it on at home… it just doesn’t look the same! Maybe it was the lighting at the store, the mirrors maybe tricked me into buying this dress. What do you guys think? Should I go with a lighter color or will this dress go well for our rehearsal dinner?

It’s absolutely gorgeous. And with the burnout, I don’t think you have to worry about the black being too severe. I vote for wearing it.

I think it’s lovely, too! Wear it!
If it’s color you’re looking for, just wear it with some fun bright shoes! :)

Thanks! I’m more of a black dress kind of girl so it was hard for me to resist buying the dress. I still wish the color was lighter, I love yellow and red but for some reason this season didn’t have a lot of pretty cocktail dresses in these colors. Hehe, there’s still a lot of prom dresses at the dept stores! :)

accessorize with splash colors. (but don’t overdo it since the dress is already quite busy…)

some suggestions (not to be used all at once or even twice at once. just one at once.)
*a wooden turquoise or yellow bracelet.
*thin but fairly large silver hoop earrings with some coral incorporated.
*a pink or yellow or turquoise headband thingy.
*tons of skinny gold/silver stack bracelets (hm, dunno if this is summery but i think it’d go well with your dress).

you look great!

I think you can spring/summer it up with really bold jewelry or shoes or a wrap. Certainly a bold necklace like turquoise or coral.

I wish I had your problem. There’s a lot of dresses I can’t wear because my girls are so not there for me. :)

It’s gorgeous…I think you should wear it. I don’t know if you are a flower wearing person, but a pretty rose (or some other substantial sized and hardy bloom) in your hair can give the look a summery feel.

It’s an all-season dress that could use a summery touch. I like the suggestion of red shoes. How about patent leather (maybe wedge heels) in your favorite color?

It’s an all-season dress that could use a summery touch. I like Jackie’s suggestion of red shoes. Maybe in patent leather, either flats or a wedge? Also bright yellow is hot right now.

I love this dress. I actually bought one of their black and white dresses for my rehearsal dinner as well. It’s beautiful and fits the theme of my wedding as well as the colors - black, red and white. They have a great collection right now. Pair the dress with red or another color - it will look beautiful!

Enjoy!

It looks a bit matronly. Maybe it’s the fabric?

It’s lovely - you should definitely wear it. Then again, I see nothing wrong with black and white in the summer… my wedding is next Memorial Day weekend with a black and white color scheme, and just by coincidence I am wearing a black and white dress to my engagement party at the end of June.

It’s a lovely dress and I think it would work great as a rehearsal dress. If you want make it more summery, try the ‘ol add a colored sash to it bit. Or even better, place a flower behind your ears (goes great with your awesome long hair) and match your accessories to the flower!

I agree it looks a bit matronly. I feel like it makes me look kind of motherly, the halter style actually makes it look like an apron dress. It has a pleasantville feel, like I should be carrying a dish of hot apple pie with this dress!

ohhhh very pretty

i say dont worry about not being springy enough because its dinner anyway and black is fine in the evening. try silver shoes to give it a nice glimmer to your outfit and maybe diamond studs or something. i wouldnt go too heavy with bright color and accessories because the dress already has a classy pattern and you dont wanna overdo it. keep things simple… youre already the highlight of the evening… you dont need too much fuss to get ppl’s attention. theyll think youre beautiful no matter what. =)

I love it, silver shoes would be great too. And since it’s your rehearsal dinner you could get away with putting a pretty flower in your hair.
