Stress Is Not My Friend

June 1st, 2007 @ 8:27 am by Mrs. Bluebell

Sorry I haven’t been blogging much lately, but I have a good excuse! My stress has made me physically ill! After feeling gradually worse and worse over the past few weeks, I finally dragged myself into the doctor today and was diagnosed with a syndrome caused almost entirely by stress! For some reason, I am oddly proud of this fact, like “see, I told you I was really stressed - my body even shut down! Haha!” Of course, the joke is ultimately on me and…no one else.

Regardless, I’ve got some drugs now and should be all patched up by wedding time in three weeks. Eeek! Not to mention, my doctor told me that it would go away on its own after you know, the stress subsides.

Anyway, the stress was equal parts work and wedding planning…and “oh my god did I seriously give myself an ulcer?!?”…but lots of progress has been made on the wedding front, I now officially know that I’m not going to die (fingers crossed), so it is all seeming much more manageable.

A few of our recent accomplishments:

  • WE HAVE PORTAPOTTIES BOOKED
  • we mailed the banquet invites for our Chinese banquet in July
  • we have (97%) finalized our guest list!
  • finalized most of our menu
  • bought customized light cords from Asian Ideas for all of our lanterns (a wee bit more affordable than the $45 per lantern that our tent people wanted to charge for stringing up our $3.00 paper lanterns - from Pearl River)
  • picked a reading and asked a friend to read it for us
  • progress on the programs
  • …and I went on my bachelorette/bridal shower weekend!!! A full update of that to come!

I think we are officially at the point where a ton of things could still go wrong, or not be quite what we were hoping, but the whole thing will happen nonetheless!

Oh, anyone who tells a girl this close to her wedding that the pain will go away when the stress subsides clearly earned himself or herself a poke in the eye. *poke*

Oh no, I’m sorry to hear that Miss Bluebell. Stress is not my friend either. I keep breaking out in hives and my doctor says it is just stress- now i’m worrying that it will happen on the big day. See it could be worse- at least your ulcer won’t show up in pictures:)

Poor Miss Bluebell… :( Hopefully you’ll feel a bajillion times better soon, even though you can’t have coffee. btw, my sympathy coffee strike is going strong.

You have gotten so much done, good job!! It’s all falling into place, no worries!

And good job on the travel toilet front!

Wedding stress manifested itself physically for me too, causing me to lose my appetite and lose weight and get some zits — not good. Glad you are taking it easier now. Exercise helps kill stress for a lot of people, so maybe do whatever is relaxing for you. Hm, I feel like swimming now…

Also remember that a lot of the little things really aren’t that important and some of them can be simplified, delegated, or skipped. Really. Give yourself permission to reduce your to-do list by 10%.

I hope the bachelorette/bridal shower helped some of that stress, I highly suggest taking a few days off from everything wedding and work and just relaxing with Mr. Bluebell or some friends or even by yourself. I hope you feel better!!! And congrats on having so much done!!!

Same here! Crossing my fingers that stress doesn’t make me break before the wedding — that would stress me out even more!!!

Thanks for all the well wishes guys!

Seriously the hardest part about this is NO COFFEE FOR AT LEAST TWO WEEKS though! NOT FAIR!!!!

And also…my cat stole my pills. Lamest excuse ever, but she did! They were on the coffee table when we went to bed and after like 3 hours of searching this morning they were discovered lodged behind the couch (where we’d already checked 20 times)

And as for the prevalence of wedding-stress-related medical issues, I told my doctor “my job has been really stressful…and…I’m getting married in 3 weeks.” and she was just like “OH” like “well that explains it.” Haha oh well!

Two months after the wedding and moving into our new home, I spent the day in the ER with something diagnosed as costochondritis…
I was suprised and so was my family because not once during the planning process had I had any kind of “breakdown”

Hope you’re feeling better!

feel better soon! those antibiotics will really help. ulcers are actually caused by bacteria. the onset can be induced by stress, but those bugs are the real ones responsible.
