He proposed exactly 1 year, 1 month and 6 days after our first date (it's the only part of his proposal speech that I remember), and we're planning long-distance from Los Angeles for a July wedding in my hometown of Monterey, CA. The Ultimate Wedding Font

June 1st, 2007 @ 5:53 pm by Mrs. Lemon

Alright people… you may not be as excited about this as I am (since I’m a font geek and have little font posters up around my computer and subscribe to font newsletters) BUT nevertheless this is by far the coolest (wedding) font that has ever been created:

z913840

Burgues Script is an ode to the late 19th century American calligrapher Louis Madarasz, whose legendary pen has inspired schools of penmanship for over 100 years. His talent has caused some people to call him “the most skillful penman the world has ever known.” –cpluv

z913872

There are more than 500 characters, including swashes, titling, and alternates….. which means that you can pretty much create your own gorgeous calligraphy script at home complete with all the fanciness that only the best in the biz have in their repertoire.

z91384001 z91384002

The only drawback…. the price of $99. Now… if I had to go back to the drawing board and redesign my invitations…. I think I might consider working completely around this gorgeous typeface. *sigh*

For me, what sets it apart from other really swishy-swirly fonts is the fact that it’s absolutely 100% readable. There’s stuff out there that looks cool from a design standpoint, but from a clarity standpoint just doesn’t cut it. This covers both bases.

I’m obsessed with fonts too! I’m not typically into fancy script fonts but this one is really pretty.

$99 is not that bad if you think about it. You can do away with a calligrapher and you can still use the font after the wedding :) Thanks for sharing!!

Check out Emigre:

http://www.emigre.com

They are a digital type foundry and have pretty cool catalogues. I know you can get at least one free, and they used to do email newsletters–I haven’t gotten one in while so I don’t know if they still do them. There are also a bunch of essays about type. Lots of info.

I love this font, I’ve been wanting it for months but one hundred bucks for a font is just a bit ridiculous and in my case unaffordable. Why can’t people be generous enough as to post a link to download it? At this rate, I’ll get the font for free in about 5 years.

Jessica, these fonts are worth every cent - they take a long time to develop and perfect and the creators deserve to be recognized and compensated for this. There are plenty of free fonts floating around the web if you can’t/don’t want to pay for one - but there’s a reason that they’re free - like most things in life you get what you pay for.

Swapping/emailing/downloading/sharing these fonts is illegal, they’re copyrighted in the same way as any other commercial product.
