Buck & Doe Details!

June 4th, 2007 @ 10:29 am by Mrs. Pumpkin

I received the following e-mail in my account on Friday:

“A Party in Celebration of Mr. & Miss. Pumpkin!

Host: MOH & BM of the Pumpkins
Location: Younger brother of Mr. Pumpkin’s Farm
When: Saturday, June 9, 8:00pm

Please bring your fun self, along with your fun friends (all are welcome!), for an evening of fun and frivolity at the expense of Mr. & Miss Pumpkin!

Snacks, Hot dogs, Hamburgers, and Mix will be provided, and $2.00 shooters will also be sold! Those interested in the highly coveted Shooter Girl positions may send your resume, along with picture, to the attention of Mr. Pumpkin’s single older brother at ……….@hotmail.com. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted.

Please also bring along something comfortable to sit on, something intoxicating to sip on, something warm to slip on, and something (and by that I don’t mean “someone”) to sleep on, in the event that driving home may not be the best option for you. The organizers of this event kindly thank you in advance for not drinking and driving!

We are requesting a donation of $10.00 to cover costs, with the remainder of the proceeds going to Mr. & Miss Pumpkin so they can buy us all presents on their European Honeymoon!

Proud Supporters of this event include, but are not limited to:
Mr. & Mrs. Pumpkin (the originals!): Firstly, their son is marrying the smart, the gorgeous, the funny, the all around fabulous Miss Pumpkin! (aka Mouse, Missy, K-Dawg). Secondly, they actually know about *this* party, and it is not being hosted in their living room on Boxing Day and/or New Year’s Eve.
Parents of Miss Pumpkin: What parents wouldn’t be thrilled to have their only daughter marry a guy who refers to himself as “El Dangeroso”, and has been known to sport a perfectly coifed mohawk from time to time.

Special Thanks:
Mr., and the soon-to-be Mrs., younger brother of Mr. Pumpkin for hosting this festive occasion. Campbell Collegiate, for providing the optimum growing conditions to help this love blossom into the happy couple we see before us today.
Big Bro of Miss Pumpkin (”The Colonel”), Middle Bro of Miss Pumpkin, all the HHHPP Fantasy Football Crew for making sure Mr. Pumpkin’s picks are always in order at the end of the night and last, but not least, tiny infant baby Jesus.

Proud Sponsors:
Pilsner, LAXIM Publications, Lime Crush, Tha Dogg Pound, Ten Club, Entertainment Weekly, Saskatchewan Law Society, BM & MOH.”

So, finally! Official confirmation of what I have suspected for a couple of weeks now. A real Eastern Canadian Buck & Doe party (jointly) in honour of yours truly! And, how cute is that invitation?!? Have I mentioned that my MOH and I are the funniest people we know?

I should probably explain at least one of those inside jokes:

Mr. Pumpkin was notorious for throwing parties at his house without his parents permission and they ALWAYS came home in the middle of them. As a result Mr. Pumpkin was grounded for the majority of our high school existence. The minute he was off grounding he would have another party and we’d be right back where we started. The most famous of these parties were his Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve parties. In Grade 12 his Mom came home from work at 11:59:45 pm on New Year’s Eve to find about 150 people in her living room, in perfect time for the countdown and to see one of our friends crash through her closet door when midnight struck. Good times…

So now my biggest question is what to wear while I get my drink on and my snack on? Any suggestions? At the moment I am thinking jeans, t-shirt and bunnyhug*. Do you think that is too casual? It is a farm party remember….

* A bunnyhug is what the rest of the world apparently calls a “hoodie”. In Saskatchewan it is, and always will be, a bunnyhug. It used to just refer to the pull-over sweatshirts with the kangaroo pouch in the front, not the full zip sweatshirts, but I think a bunnyhug is now anything sweatshirt like with pockets on the front. See here for proof.

‘Bunnyhug’ is so much cuter than ‘hoodie.’ :-)

Clever invite, sounds like a fun time.

I agree with AMK that bunnyhug is cuter than hoodie.
I don’t think jeans and a T will be too casual. Maybe not just a t- but a pretty shirt/tank.

Hysterical! My favorite is the “infant baby jesus” line from Talladega Nights…

miss pumpkin! I love you and your stories because I can relate. I’m from northen Maine and it’s difficult to relate with 25,000 weddings from NYC. Just wanted to say that. Jeans, tee, and a bunnyhug will be perfect. You should maybe even use this event as an excuse to buy yourself a new bunnyhug. Perfect!

once a bunnyhug, always a bunnyhug. For a farm party I would think that Jeans, t, and bunnyhug would be fine. It’d be what I would wear!

There will be lots of pictures, so whatever you wear, include something (even if it’s just a necklace) sentimental to you to see when you look back at the pictures. Maybe a bunnyhug from your (or your fiance’s) alma mater name on it.

I love this. Excuse my question, if you’ve already addressed this in the past Miss Pumpkin, but is this party the Canadian version of a joint bachelor/bachelorette party? Or will you still have seperate festivities?
I just told FI this morning that we should have a party with my girls and his guys together instead of seperately. Can’t wait to hear more about your party!

I’m with Erika, I love the Talladega Nights reference! I actually laughed out loud when I read that (and I’m at work…heehee)!

Hi Jen,
To answer your question, sort of. In Eastern Canada they have Buck & Doe parties early on in the engagement and it is actually a fundraiser for the couple to help them throw the wedding. In that case, to my understanding, it doessn’t replace separate bachelor and bachelorette parties, it is more of an engagement party. In our case however, it is our joint bachelor/bachelorette party but our MOH and BM have incorporated the fundraising aspect into the party. Clear as mud?
