He proposed exactly 1 year, 1 month and 6 days after our first date (it's the only part of his proposal speech that I remember), and we're planning long-distance from Los Angeles for a July wedding in my hometown of Monterey, CA. Signed, Sealed and Delivered

Look what we got….
z917857

That big yellow envelope contains our super boring (but very legal) marriage license, and today it’s being shipped up to Monterey to the diocese to wait more signatures in July. I must say that our trip to the Beverly Hills courthouse was very uneventful. We parked on the street only steps away from the door, went through security, waited until the clerks ended their lunchbreak, jumped in line for the first open window, handed over our IDs, gave an oath, signed our names, handed them $70 and left with our package. It seriously took no more than ten minutes of our time, and we were done.

Now, I will say that the couple next to us had some issues, and they were far from done when we went on our merry way. So, if you’re in Los Angeles County (or somewhere else that has it), I highly suggest you complete the application online. Our clerk told us we were extra “smart” for doing so and that it saved us at least 30-60 minutes… but I just don’t think that many people know it’s an option. It saves the hassle of waiting for someone to enter your information in the computer, and it also assures that you get all of the names and facts right the first time.

Wowzers… one more big step taken care of…. now I can really feel the time creeping up on me!

Robyn - I just found it when I googled “Los Angeles County marriage license” … I doubt too many counties have it available, but it’s worth it to try and find out!

Red - the link is above … just click “online”

Same goes for the DMV/MVA — Filling out your own forms online and bringing the printouts is a big time saver. This helped a lot when I changed my name on my driver’s license.

Whoa! That is way more trouble than NY state gave us when we went for our license. We walked in, gave them 2 forms of ID, our address and occupations, verified that it was all correct (and correctly spelled), and handed the clerk $40. $70 is robbery!!!

FI and I live in Kansas and we went to apply for ours this morning. We weren’t even asked for any ID, which I found very odd. We were given a form to fill out and bring back with our $50 fee in three days (standard waiting period for marriage license in Kansas).
